I know the audition was yesterday, but perhaps any info would help with your post-audition worries.
Your best bet is probably Dorothy. Our Dorothy was a soprano, and was asked to reprise the role by a community theatre over the summer.
If I remember correctly, Addaperle's more of an alto or mezzo with a strong low range. She goes low in her song "He's the Wizard" on the lyric "He's the Wiz and he lives in OOoooooozzz". Though I suppose it's not vital that she sing the line...could be done chorally. Still, besides Dorothy the women are lower voices.
On the flipside, all the "male" roles in The Wiz are tenors or baritones with very good upper ranges. Wiz, Tin Man, and Lion all have considerable high As. The Scarecrow is up there the least as written, but still high, if I remember correctly (I played him last year).
I dunno if you, as a soprano, could play him. If you were simply to sing the song in your soprano octave, the notes would translate to your range comfortably. However, it probably wouldn't sound good - the style being motown and then having coloratura-like singing would be disjointed.
How good's your low range? If it's strong, you might be able to sing it as written. I'm sorry I don't remember the lowest written note - it was well within my range so I didn't pay heavy attention.
How'd the audition go?
