I haven't seen it, but would love too. I agree the CD is awesome. Laughing

My drama teacher told me it was terrible. She said she almost walked out.

My friend loves it and listens to it like every day.

I enjoyed it on the Tony's though and I like the songs "Saturday Night in the City" and "It's Your Wedding Day". I wish Adam Sandler was in it.
Tiny-Tot

That would be great if Adam Sandler would make a cameo in it. Very Happy
BwayJuvinile

I loved it, tons of energy when i saw it. Total 80's.
Crystal

I haven't seen it (yet) but I have the OBCR and I absolutely love it! Even just listening to the songs I can feel the energy of the show. I can't even imagine how much fun it'd be to actually see. I'm totally loving the whole 80's feel to all the music too.

Walking out...

Generally speaking, I don't understand why people walk out of a show just because it's terrible. Especially people like drama teachers. Everything you see in the theatre teaches you something and sometimes you can learn more from the bad shows than the good.

I want to see the show. It looks good. I thought it might be a bit "tacky", but I heard that is the show's strong point.

I think the people who want to nit pick this show and say its awful are the ones who expect it to BE the movie. Its not. Its based on the movie, there are a few things that are right from the movie, but most of it is different. I like it better that way. I mean we've all seen the movie so its nice for a little change to the story and have it told a bit differently.

If you keep an open mind going in, you can really enjoy this show.

As for walking out of a show, I had a high school music director who had to walk out of Rent during intermission. However, that was because of the themes being adressed.

???

What was the problem exactly? What did he have against the themes that are tackled in the show? And why should that make it all right to walk out for someone who is, presumably, interested in theatre-making?

I never said it was ok. I said he walked out of Rent. It wasn't ok that he did it, but I started the reason he did it was because he was made uncomfortable by the themes. I was simply comparing it to whoever said their teacher almost walked out of The Wedding Singer.

I completely agree with you. In fact, my drama teacher (actually, my drama teacher's assistant) has walked out on Wicked, Hairspray, Seussical the Musical, and more. I find it horrible, especially since I've heard rave reviews about Wedding Singer.

Exactly. I've not liked a show I've gone to see, but I've never walked out. You can learn from any production, good or bad.

And I never said that you said it was ok. Although I would like to know what specific problems he had with which specific themes, the questions were mainly rhetorical.

Oh, don't do that. I'm far from stupid and know what rhetorical means. The way things were worded, it did not come off that way-which is in general, a problem with the internet-no inflection of the voice to base things off of.

As for what specific things he had issues with, he never told us back then. He just walked out and then the next day of tour stated that "various things" made him uncomfortable.

Since he did not come back after intermission we had always assumed it was the prevelance of homosexuality throughout the show.

This is all speculation on what exact issues and it happened over 8 years ago and I don't remember specifics. Which was why I gave a vague answer to begin with.

Well in all fairness, the focus of your original post did not seem to unequivoally point to the earlier post. Maybe I'm just being stroppy, but I was just reading the thread in the order the posts appeared and when quotes aren't used to show the exact reference to which someone is responding, sometimes things become confusing.

The show is amazing and is not tacky at all. i've seen it 3 times... 4 times this coming saturday. it is truly an amazing show. the whole cast is amazing. if you werent around in the 80's you might not get some of the jokes because the refer to people and things of the time sometimes. like there were some younger kids when i went and the one that was sitting near me didnt laugh at anything. i've sat front row center and you can feel the guitars and drums through the protective wall ( i guess you can call it that ) for the orchestra because the amps are like all the way up lol. i am soooo happy they didnt make it a jukebox (sp?) musical like mama mia and shows like that because i hate those kind of musicals. but anyway the story is really good and the singing is amazing. cmedically is hysterical and dancing wise it is sooooo good. they should have won the choreography tony in my opinion.

oh and if you want really great seats, really cheap get there early like 9am (the box office opens at 10). go get student rush tickets its 26.25 each and you can get front row seats orchestra if you get there early. you can get 2 tickets with one student ID.

if anyone needs anymore info let me know. i've seen it plenty of times.
