Movie musicals are making a come back!!! (Hairspray, Rent, Mamma Mia, Sweeney...) Julie Walters is in it, she'll make the movie really good. She's a legend! |

They've been in comeback for a few years now...Moulin Rouge, Chicago, The Phantom of the Opera, The Producers, Rent, Hairspray, Sweeney Todd, and Mama Mia...Nine, Carousel, Jekyll and Hyde, and Sunset Boulevard have been rumoured of late as well. | ||

I just mentioned "Sunset Boulevard" and "Jekyll and Hyde" in the other thread with the trailer for this. 
I now remember hearing about the possibility of "Nine" being turned into a film. But "Carousel"? Really? Well, I do see it there on IMDB. Well, if they really want to film it again, I guess it is OK, but I am not too interested in seeing that filmed again. I would honestly like it if they would just focus on the stage musicals that have never been movie musicals first before they go into remakes. |

You know, I hear all of these rumors about musicals, but they hardly ever end up true. I also mentioned in that other thread what I'd heard about "Les Miserables" years ago, but that obviously didn't happen either. You say that you'd like to see a better version of "Carousel". For me it would be "Guys and Dolls". Again, years ago, it was a rumor that they were going to film it. Another one of those rumors that just faded away. I love Sinatra, and I enjoy the film, but that is one that I think could've been a tiny bit better. I really wouldn't have minded seeing that remade. I know that they would never remake this. It would be interesting to see "On the Town" done the way that it should've been done with the original music and so on. I would still go see "Carousel". I have to! For some reason, I feel that I must see all of these movie musicals now! I have yet to figure out why! The only one I didn't see in the theater was "Rent". I waited for the DVD of that.
By the way, I finally saw the trailer for this on another site just now. Honestly, "Mamma Mia" looks almost like it will have a "beach" movie feeling to it. The story is simple enough for that.

I don't really understand why they are making a movie about Mamma Mia. I mean, maybe it will sell because of all the songs, but I don't think it will ever have the magic of the stage show. It looks fake.
Furthermore, there aren't that many people who loved this show. |

This is it's sixth year on Broadway, and it's still in the Top 10 List on Broadway.com for best sellers... and that's just in one city. |
