The Tide is Turning...A Truly Positive Personal Update

I know a lot of you have been following the craziness that has been my life in the past few months. Many of you have offered some amazing words of support and encouragement...

You've seen me through my mental breakdown in the "Rant" thread, which ultimately got me into a bit of trouble, etc. (but it cleared the people from my life that weren't good for my personal advancement, so it was a good thing in the end)

I'm really and truly starting to feel the tide is turning...Things are looking up. I would like to share a few of those things with you.

About two weeks ago, I did an experimental theatre piece for fun during my "off" time for "Carousel". I ended up meeting a composer who has had his work produced on Broadway and he's worked with people like Brian D'arcy James, Liz Callaway, Karen Ziemba, Paul Schafer, etc...to name a few. ANYWAY...the long and the short of it is that he wants ME to work on some of his new songs! YAY!

I think it will be great fun! And I'm looking forward to working on new songs that haven't been heard before. I can create something, too! Smile

As for my work on the production, it's been an AMAZING experience. Now, the production on the whole is not Broadway calibur by any stretch of the imagination, but the work that I've been doing and the connection I've had to the material has really revitalized and strengthened my passion for my art.

I just gave some of the best performances of my life this past weekend with "Carousel". You know when you've done a good performane...these transcended every performance of anything I've ever done.

I literally felt tingles during "If I Loved You"...It was awesome! (And I must admit, my voice sounded pretty darn glorious! LOL!)

At the end of the pregnancy announcement scene (a scene that I worked on outside of rehearsals with Billy and we basically got to sculpt ourselves) got APPLAUSE! We hit every single moment without fail!

And the death scene, (a scene that I was afraid of through the rehearsal process because of circumstances that you guys know) just poured from my heart onto the stage...I cried so hard that I almost got snotty! LOL!

And when Julie finds the star...I felt my friend with me. It just really hit me.

When I was done, the producer came up to me and wiped tears away and choked out, "The work you've done on this piece is so beautiful. You should be doing this on Broadway. I don't know how I got so lucky as to have you return to my company for this production, but thank you!"

And his wife was a mess too! LOL!

Considering he's directed a few people who have gone on to Broadway from his company (Jamie Lyn Siegler among them...pardon the spelling), that meant a lot.

I had 5 of my friends come out and surprise me this weekend, which totally floored me! They went all the way out to Long Island...It just reminded me of how lucky I am to have my TRUE friends around me and how much I am loved and supported.

I extend that sentiment to you guys as I continue with my career and with my life.

Special props go out to DaddyDiesel, Set Buildin' Dad, MaryMag, Salome and SO MANY OTHERS! Smile

I guess I just wanted to share that with you all...

And I bought my little sister a ticket to come out and see me for the final weekend on a whim! We were giggling last night as we purchased the ticket! I can't WAIT to see her! The last performance she saw me in was about 8 years ago or so!!!!

You see this... Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile

I'm smiling!
wicked_boy

I'm sooo happy for you.

I don't like seeing people upset.
jazzygirlsings

I don't like being upset! LOL!
wicked_boy

Hehe.

I would post a very cute picture, but my google seems to be really slow.
sunrae

Hey Jazzy! I'm so glad that things are picking up for you. I wish that I could see you in Carousel! Sounds like you are doing an amazing job. And it also sounds like you have some great support from your friends. I hope that things just keep getting better Smile
MaryMag

While searching for google images to express my feelings, I found the following:

See you in a week! I'm building up my hugging muscles!
jazzygirlsings

LOL! I love the pic of the guy with the "thumbs up!"

Hopefully, you'll get a chance to meet my sister as well! I'm really excited to meet you and show you around, MaryMag! (Did you get my phone number from my myspace message?)

And thanks, Sunrae! I am so glad to see you back on here more often again! I'm sorry I've been kinda hard to reach lately!

Wicked Boy, thanks for making me giggle! Smile
Set_Buildin_Dad

I'm really glad that things have turned around so well for you. Very Happy Your Carousel performance sounds amazing. Oh, to be independently wealthy and to have gobs of free time so that I could hop a jet and see you perform (This goes for many others too - not just Jazzy). I'm glad that we were of some help in supporting you. In spite of our squabbles around here we can sometimes pull together and support our fellow MdN "family" members.
DaddyDiesel

Gratz Jazzy. I feel very happy for you. I cant imagine how tough it was to go through what you did. Hell it was tough just readin about it. BUt the great thing is, everything is so positive and wonderful now that your on the otherside of it. well deserved happyness. Gratz again.
Quique

I'm SO happy for you, Jazzygirl! It's nice to know things are looking up and just keep getting better. Congrats on your performances! Very Happy
AllThatJazzHands

Your experience in Carousel sounds positively amazing, Jazzy! You know we all wish you the best of luck with the rest of the show!
Plus, I wish you the best with this composer! I hope you go far!

So happy for you!
jazzygirlsings

Thanks guys!

I am really excited about working on some new stuff...I'll let you know what working with the composer is like. I think it's going to be great fun!

Right now, I'm just keeping some stuff on the down low because I don't really want to jinx anything...LOL! I'm so silly that way!

Tonight, I have another performance...This role totally rocks my socks! Smile

Sho did! I should call you soon to figure things out... such as what trains to take to get to your show...

isn't this funny - i am nervous to call you! i'm afraid you'll prefer my online persona to my real life persona!

but really... i think i'm even more delightful in person!

It is RIDICULOUS how easy it is to get to my show! LOL! Smile

I'm actually super nervous to perform in front of you...And no worries about the online persona thing! I'm sure I will like you just fine!

It's so strange...we've been talking about this move for awhile and I can't believe it's just around the corner! Smile

Hey Jazzy - it's good to hear from you too! I don't really come on very often (I get at trouble at work). And when I'm at home...well, I'm just not at home very much so I don't really have time to come on the boards then.

But hey - I'm thinking about making a trip to NYC for a couple weeks in June. If I do we should really meet up! That would be so fun Smile

And you should let me tag along! Since we were at the same audition in LA and you mentioned you recognized me but I did not catch a glimpse of you! No fair! You saw me and I didn't get to see you. We need to remedy this. I'll be in NY in June, too!

I don't think New York could handle the uniting of 2 of the world's sweetiest people + one 25 year old girl who cannot act her age. So much sweetness would spill out in the world and just cover the streets of NY with sugar and lollipops. Even the homeless people would become cherry flavored.

Have fun with your get-together ladies. I still want to see ALL of you perform. Paint the town pink, but warn the happless bystanders first. I have a feeling that the energy between you guys could quickly bring the big apple to its knees.

jazzygirlsings

Allie, you made me get all teary! Thank you for your kind words and continued support! I can't wait to work with the composer, either! Smile

Chev...I have a feeling I've been saying this to you a lot lately...Your comments about my ex, this show, etc...but yes...YOU WERE RIGHT! Smile

Annie, thank you...I'm really excited and it IS wonderful! Smile

RobinFlamingo...It takes a TRULY AMAZING person to know one! And you are one of the MOST amazing! Thanks so much for your words of encouragement and your advice through all of this crazy stuff. Smile

We thoroughly intend to make NY aglow with rainbows and lollipops and music...and TONS of giggling!!! Smile

Jazzy, it's great to see you on a high. Smile I hope things keep on moving up and up but if they don't, remember then how you feel now and take a piece of it with you...

Gosh, after the months and months of crap that I've been through, this is a bigger gift than I could ever know...

And just to reiiterate folks...this theatre production is a FAR cry from Broadway...LOL! But I'm really proud of the work I've done and that I'm "starting over", so to speak. Only this time, I've got some AMAZING acting tools! Smile

Part of all of this stuff that has happened has really made me appreciate what it is that I do as a performer. It's amazing the things that I can share with people now, even my most painful moments. This seemingly terrible period of my life has transformed me in ways I have yet to fully comprehend. The people that worked with me on projects 4 years ago were SHOCKED at the "new" Jasmine, but in a good way. (In fact, many of them said I have better energy now that I've lost the extra "weight"...meaning my ex...that many of them knew! LOL!)

I'm really learning to enjoy the journey instead of stressing myself about where I feel I should be at this point. And I know that my friend Jen is with me every step of the way. She really wanted to be onstage as an actor (when she realized she was awesome at the readings in my kitchen! LOL!) and every time I go for that star in the "If I Loved You" reprise, I think of her.

I know where I'm going...There are speedbumps and obstacles along the way, but one of my favorite quotes (that my friend Jen had by her door and passed by everyday and now I have affixed to my door) is:

"Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which one has overcome while trying to succeed."
Booker T. Washington

I LOVE that pic!!!!! My brother got it tattooed!!

I think it disguises his bacne beautifully!
MaryMag

Does he have this Jesus playing soccer statue at home, too?

Look at Jesus wearing FLIP FLOPS, but still in his robes.

Sometimes I think we should go the way of the Muslims and forbid pictures of the Lord... cuz sometimes they just end up looking a mess.

BACK TO JAZZY:
only 4 days and the world's longest train ride until I see your show!

I'm so happy for you, Jazzy! After all the crap you went through, you totally deserve this. I hope this is just the beginning of your newfound happiness.

PS I still get really excited every time your scene comes up in Music and Lyrics.

LOL! Best minimum wage job I ever had! Wink

Seriously...I was in a crowd of like 350 people and they kept moving me front and center in the class reunion scene. It's certainly not "my" scene, but I'm ALL OVER it!

I got to get into this little shoving thing with Kristen Johnson and I also got a close-up!

And here I thought I was just going to try it to see how the set of a feature film worked...LOL! It was fun! Smile

I also did a short filler for Nickelodeon that people have seen, but that was awhile ago...
