Zilkha Hall in The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts 800 Bagby Street Houston, Texas Friday, September 21 @ 7:30 Saturday, September 22 @ 1:30 Saturday, September 22 @ 7:30 Visit www.tuts.com or call (713) 558-8887 to purchase tickets Have you tried defying gravity? It's wicked! The inspiring songwriting career of Stephen Schwartz will enliven the fourth ACT@TUTS production for 2007, THE STEPHEN SCHWARTZ PROJECT. Beginning when Mr. Schwartz was not much older than the Conservatory students themselves (with his college musical that became the world-wide phenomenon GODSPELL) the composer's canon has gone on to include landmark Broadway and West End musicals like PIPPIN and CHILDREN OF EDEN, as well as films created in collaboration with Disney, like POCAHONTAS and THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME. This evening of "his work in revue" will also feature some selections from his newest efforts, the Disney-influenced GEPETTO & SON and the hit musical still on Broadway and national tour, WICKED. The show includes exciting all new music arrangements for: Day By Day (One of his most well-known songs in a beautiful arrangement in English, Spanish, French, Italian, and American Sign Language) The Spark of Creation Meadowlark (with a ballet-dancing violinist) Cold Enough to Snow Build A City (Beautiful City / One Short Day) Manchild Right Track Since I Gave My Heart Away Lost in the Wilderness Colors of the Wind Ain't It Good? Solid Silver Platform Shoes Lion Tamer Out There The Good Time Ladies' Rag / All For the Best (with exciting "rhythm precision" choreography," like Will Rogers Follies... only better) West End Avenue It's An Art Crowded Island Blame It On The Summer Night Defying Gravity / Corner of the Sky When You Believe / All Good Gifts |

Wow, that has some of my favorites from Wicked and Children of Eden, but none of my favorites from Pippin (such as Magic To Do, Morning Glow, No Time At All, Kind of Woman) with the exception of Corner of the Sky. This show needs more Pippin!
Still, I wish I could go. |

There are three amazing dance arrangements of Magic to Do.
There is Magic to Do: Tango and Magic to Do: Waltz which are both instrumental, and Magic to Do: Funk / Philosopher's Stone, which is modern / Fosse-esque, and has some really cool vocal arrangements from the song in it. And we just found out that Stephen Schwartz will be at one of the performances, as well as some of the producers for Grey Gardens, so everyone is very excited. |
