The Sacred Bird -

Just got the rights to do Miss Saigon and was wondering if anyone knew why The Sacred Bird was taken out of the libretto and not in the score. Holding auditions this week in Brooklyn, so if you are intersted, post back and I will provide info.

It was decided that the song was too 'stereotypical' with Nicholas Hynter, the Director of the original production remarking, "I felt all that 'great sacred bird' stuff was a rather shallow Western idea of the way Eastern minds work...It just rang false to me". It was later replaced by 'Little God of My Heart' and then the current Finale.

I personally disagree with the idea and would like to see it back in the show, but there is another thread for that. Smile

i love that song! i think it's really pretty. although it was initailly removed due to the cliched nature of it, i agree it should be put back in. Good luck with your show! sure it'll be great.
