Just got it confirmed last night by a friend who is friends with the director.
A theater nearby IS doing BATB. They audition in Aug. or Sept. and then rehearse 1-2 times a week until the spring when the show opens.

I'm not sure who the competition might be for the role of Belle, but I plan on trying to (safely) lose as much weight as possible for the next three months for auditions. I'm worried they could go with someone who more looks the part in terms of height/size over best talent, which I am less worried about.

Does anyone who has been in (or is in now) BATB still have a copy of their script? I'd really like to look at the lines again. (I was in the show a few years ago, but in chorus, and we never copied our scripts)

Duh, I have a DVD of the production I was in, in the chorus. I guess I could watch it to get the lines!! But so much of it was .... not that good. Subconsciously I must've forgotten about it to save myself from torture!

Break legs Brig. Your story is a similar to mine. I remember when I heard a theatre near me was doing B&TB and I wanted Gaston. I Did as much research as I could. I started to work out and lose weight. In the end I ended up getting the role of Gaston.

I feel our stories will remain on the similar path come casting time for your show. Go get em brig!

Found out yesterday that Belle is pre-cast. Pretty much. The girl who was their Dorothy last year is favored and pre-cast in at least the mind of the MD. Not sure about the director, but if they cast her as a lead before...

Good glory, I'm confused...

So last night the MD talked to me about auditioning and said I HAD to audition, he really wants me in the show, and of course he and the director have to think of their talent pool before they decide to do a show, but NOTHING is pre-cast or set in stone... (so he says...)

????

So, yes, of course I'll audition for the show, but put on my audition sheet I'm only interested in Belle or Babbette, pretty much. (I'd say Mrs. Potts too but it's a little low for me)

And I'm even more confused because another theater approached me about directing for them and the shows would overlap. I could do both, but it would be tight. Plus I'm not sure if work would allow me the requests I'd need for scheduling. I just need a day job so it's not in the way of theater stuff in the evenings!!

I know it sounds all Diva of me, but... Mme. isn't really that big of a part. At least, I don't remember her having very many lines, and she only has that one little verse in Human Again. I know Babette doesn't sing much either but I remember her having more stage time/lines.

Plus, this theater is a 30 minute drive away, rehearses for 6 months, and I have other things I could be doing to further my theater "career". Although, taking whatever role they give me might build points if I want to do a show again there next year so... yeah, I just don't know.

Hallelujah!!!! The MD prefers if we sing a full song from the show for auditions!
Now, he already knows I'm more of a soprano because of HAIR chorus parts and seeing my bio, so do I go with A Change in Me and show off the lower/beltier stuff (which he also heard in HAIR) or go with Home, since it has such a wide range in itself, and is really her 'definitive' solo?

EDIT- I have a (bad quality) recording of me singing A Change in Me on youtube... There is a thread I think on the second page of this forum with a link. I'll try recording Home sometime soon (have had a sore throat and cough for a while) to get some feedback.
