The Quartet

What does everyone think of the quartet in general.

I landed the part of Olin Britt(Bass) in my high school theatre production of The Music Man, and I personally think that I could have picked a better part for myself and I wouldnt want to play anyone else.

What do you think about the quartet. And whats your favorite quartet song.

I liked Lida Rose. I was Jacey Squires in the Qaurtet 3 years ago. It was really fun and the audience loved us haha

The quartet is awesome! They get to sing with the pick-a-little ladies ("Goodnight, Ladies") as well as in the song about the Wells Fargo wagon (the title escapes my mind). Anyways, yea, the quartet is awesome. Smile

i loved the quartet!!!!!! when i was in it they had 3 girls and one guy in it. the 3 girls ahd mustaches and wigs on. it was reely funny cuz they had 2 leern to sit like guys n stuff. i <3 lida rose, and if the quartet part is done well, they can be one of the best parts in the show!

I agree with the above opinions. The quartet is always one of the best parts of the show, because, really--who DOESN'T like to hear a bunch of stuffy guys that previously couldn't get along, singing "ice cream" in four part harmony? Haha now that's priceless. Cool

I especially like "Lida Rose," such a cute song.

I was Olin in the quartet... I was MISERABLE! Why? I was the only one in the quartet with some kind of experience, which wasn't much. The other guys had never done a quartet--some had never even harmonized! Our baritone (can't think of his name) was a total ham, who would belt out all of the songs without trying to BLEND and HARMONIZE. We sounded really off-balance and off-tune. So yeah, basically I had a miserable time and I hated it and I hate the music man.

Quartet is fun!

I've been in two MM productions - once as Jacey Squires (the tenor). They're all great parts. The bass is by far the easiest to sing - the baritone is by far the hardest. The lead is very important, because you have to carry the melody of the song - and you must be on pitch - if you aren't the rest of the quartet will follow you down. The tenor is the most fun, because you have several chances to hit a screaming note on a tag (the end of a barbershop song). The first production I was in used a working quartet; they were great, but it's difficult to integrate them into the show on limited rehearsal time (the foursome are also good speaking roles - and you usually double as a train passenger). I prefer finding four good singers who can cover the parts. One note of caution - don't let anyone make a practice recording by pecking the notes out on a piano - it will make your delivery choppy, and smoothness is paramount.
