The Pirates of Penzance

Is anyone here a fan of The Pirates of Penzance? I'm currently involved in a production of this show. I'm playing the Major-General and Sergeant. What are your thoughts on this great show? Smile
Nettik

I personally am not a fan of the show, even though I've watched the movie and seen a stage production of the Jr. version.

But I do think the role of the Major General has to be one of the best roles in the entire play.
Salome

Its one of G&S's best.
but how can you play both Major general and Seargent. they appear in a song together.

I love the show! I would love to be in it again, in a full production of it (I was in the jr version)
reedzee

It's fabulous. I'd love to see it again.

We have four casts for the show (A, B, C, and D).

A - Kids
B - Pre-teens
C - Teens
D - Professional

I'm the Sergeant in the C cast, and Major General in the D cast. Smile

Once the show is done, I might try to put some videos of it on YouTube.

btw, I was in PofP a while back, I played Frederic, what a time that was, especially for a 13 year old who's voice was just changing.

I love "The Pirates Of Penzance"! It's such a wonderful and funny work. I am currently in rehearsal for the junior version of this. I'm playing Ruth, and am enjoying every minute of it! Very Happy

i love this show... it is hilarious. i played SAMUEL my junior yr. of high school... i would have to say my favorite song to sing and perform was "with cat-like tread" it was def. a show stopper.

That's one of my favorites. But it's not that fun as a Policeman. The pirates get all of the fun stuff. In our show, they sing from the audience, and work their way to the stage. Smile

This was the first real show I ever saw live. I was... twelve?

That is a SUPERB performance, mate. You have a lovely voice, you've got the humour, the confidence, the pronunciation (and that is DIFFICULT), you coped admirably with the transposition up at the end, and that last note was held extremely well.
Oh, if only all youngsters could sing that well, AND act the part soundly as well!

I absolutely adore this show! I've played Mabel twice, Edith once, and a random daughter once. And even better, I'll be directing it this fall! Sooooooo excited!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Now if only the producer would get back to me on when I can schedule auditions ... grumble ...)

Me too! It wasn't the first show I saw, but it was one of my favorites as a kid.
I love it.
