I have the CD...it's not superfantastic music, but Stephanie J Block makes it worthwhile, not to mention Hadley Fraser

Trevor is the only person in this site, I believe, who has seen it.
I enjoy the recording.
I can tell that there are definately areas which could have been better.
I have no idea what the book for the show was like.

The music is different but it has a powerful story line.

I have the CD and like it, mostly because of Stephanie and Hadley.

I saw its last matinee in previews. Stephanie was out... I believe she'd been sick for a while? but her understudy, though not with quite the voice of Steph, was pretty great. Less belty, more legit-soprano-esque, if I remember... odd for Broadway nowadays, but she pulled it off.
Overall I loved the show... if only they had cut down some of the Riverdance parts... brilliant dancing, but the many random interludes REALLY broke up and lengthened the show.
A little more work on the piece, and it could've been really something phenomenal. *shrug* ah well...
Interesting occurance that I'd never seen before... during curtain calls, when the "bad guy" (God help me remember his name) was actually booed. like completely. and loudly. He looked a little shocked at first, but then chuckled and shrugged and moved on. I felt kind of bad, because he was brilliant. (the audience was obviously booing the character, not the actor, but still...)

I have the CD, and I was pretty dissapointed by it. I though the music was pretty boring. The only sone I liked was "Here On This Night."

Somebody went to see it on their class trip to New York and told me that it was like a cross between Riverdance and Pirates of the Caribbean. Isn't the plot about Grace O'Malley?? (or some other Irish female pirate?)

Heheh. During the current calls for a performance of Oliver! I saw at a sort-of-local theatre festival (it's an hour-and-a-half drive from where I live), the adience booed the guy playing Bill Sykes.
BTW, the "bad guy" was Donal, played by Marcus Chait...or do you mean Bingham? (He wasn't very nice eaither)

Ummm... I've seen it as well.
Some of the music was GORGEOUS. I saw the second to last preview, and Stephanie J. Block was out. Kathy Voytko did an excellent job. HEr voice is great. Hadley Fraser is brilliant, he pretty much made the show for me.
In addition to having some of the most gorgeous music I've heard, it also had some of the most ridiculous, unbelievably awful music I've ever heard. Linda Balgord made me want to plug my ears every time she sang, and she got stuck with the worst songs.

Kathy Voytko? was she like an understudy?
