The Phantom of the Opera

Hi! I'm going to see the Phantom of the opera on June 3rd and was wondering what everyone thought of it! I loved the movie and the book but a lot of people told me that the show is a lot different. Is it?

The musical version of the Phantom is never called Erik, simply "The Phantom" or "The Opera Ghost".

Im sorry, this is just a pet peeve of mine, Erik is the Phantom's name in the book and other versions, yes, but not this musical version, and should only be referred to as The Phantom.

This topic would do better in the POTO forum..

Technically speaking, you're there!

Christine, The Phantom and Raoul
Ulla Dance Again!

Yea... in the play he's never refered to as Erik. I mean, I never thought he had a name because he was this elusive spirit, a phantom as it were. Anyways, the Phantom is my favorite character. I wanted to give him a hug when he was crying over Christine. Embarassed Laughing
La Carmagnole

I've also chosen Eric. Mysterious, unhappy, complicated characters - that's what I love.

I really want to play Raoul. I like the songs he sings in the show and I think his vocal range is more for me.

The Phantom, Christine, Madame Giry and Raoul
The Phantom mostly because when I went to see it Howard McGillin played him Very Happy He's amazing!!
broadwaybelle22

Raoul has my whole heart!! I love his character. He's so dashing and handsome*giggles*.
Ok, mabey he's not that amazing, but I really do love his character. He's a stable guy for Christine, when she and the Phantom just would never have worked out. I would have chosen him over some creepy stalker guy who makes me think he's an angel sent by my father! But I still love the Phantom, I just love Raoul more...

In the novel, I like the Persian best.
Ulla Dance Again!

Yes, it kind of stinks they totally replaced him with Mdme Giry in the musical.

I really liked the Persian as well but I also liked Raoul. I think the Vicomte's character/personality in the novel is a lot more interesting than in the musical.

I liked Raoul in the novel, but better in the musical if that's possible. In the novel he just.... seems a sissy. Interesting how the novel is actually from Raoul's perspective while the musical is more that of Christine. I was intruiged to see that Christine didn't get as much 'stage time' in the novel. Which is good, because novel Christine = yikes.
Christine_Magdalene_Peron

Neither, me i haven´t seen the show (but i´d just love to see it).
The phantom definitvely is my favorite character from the phantom is just someone who had never been loved and suddenly he feels it so he doesn´t know how to react.
I hate Chsirtine( althougth ironicly i´d give my life to play it so if some day i´m doing it i have to change my mind) She should have stayed with the phantom since the beggining, i think he loves her more that Roaul (insolent boy, slave of fashion) who i think seems like a girl.

And furthermore everytime i watch the movie i´m waiting for Christine to choose the phantom 8althougth i know she won´t
