The Phantom never knew desire before?

Dear "TPoTO" Fans,

I once watched a t.v. show that was all about the history of the ALW version of "TPoTO", and during the show, someone said that the Phantom had never experienced <ahem> a physical reaction to desire before Christine brushed against him during "The Music of the Night".

I always thought that such a situation could be realistic, but now, I'm thinking something that's much more like What the...? How could someone never, EVER experience a physical reaction to desire before, unless they weren't human?

I mean, even if you were locked away from humans, or blind-folded in front of them, from age 5 onward, you'd eventually feel a physical reaction to desire, even if there was noone specific for you to desire...

What's your opinion, with regards to the aforementioned subject?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Well I feel that that it would be slight awkwardness going on in Music of the Night.

It must be something in his genetics. We have those "physical reactions" even in the womb.

Also: Duchess, your threads are amazing. Laughing

Duchess of Mint, you mis-heard. Gillian Lynn said, "...he goes up and hangs on the grill at the back, and she brushes against him, and I've always felt he must have gotten an erection, of course, and that she has never felt that before in her life."

Ms Lynne is talking about Christine and doesn't say anything about the Phantom never having had that reaction before.

(It is not the documentary that is on the second disk of the 2004 movie.)

I saw that TV special...I thought Sarah Brightman was the one who said that?

I am positive it was Gillian Lynne. I watched it a couple of days ago and listened particularly for that part. See my post above for the exact wording.

If Christine had never felt an erection, I'm not too sure if she would have recognised it for what it was. Being the innocent.
