The Nightmare Before Christmas

It's already a musical movie but wouldn't it be interesting to see it as a stage musical? I'd like to see how the costumes are done...

Not sure how well it'd work. Very difficult to do Jack Skellington right because of his long spindly arms and legs. I'd see it as a ballet again, like I did Edward Scissorhands, however I really love the songs from NBC.
Pounce

They'd have to reconceive Jack Skellington so an actor can portray him. The sets, lighting, and costumes should make such a show a visual treat.

But, the story is temporal in that it appeals more to the latter half of the year and it would need more songs.

It would be amazing, my boyfriend and I have talked about how well it would work on stage.

I felt that about the Edward Scissorhands ballet because like in the movie, the snow happens at the end. I can't imagine walking out of the theatre having just seen Christmas and been snowed on and then it's bright July sunshine. Shocked

i am one of the few who just didn't get the appeal of tnbc. it's cute and all, i guess, but it's just not for me. i didn't see it as a child, and i feel most people who like it did. maybe i'm wrong. i feel like it's one of those things you like more if you see it when you're younger.

Well I guess the movie was sort of aimed at kids...but they're not the only ones who can enjoy it. I wasn't allowed to see it when it first came out (considering I was about 3 at the time) and I didn't see it until last year but I still thought it was great.

I completely ADORE TNBC, however, I'm a little afraid of how well it would transfer. Some of the effects just seem a little difficult...

Hmmm...It would be intersting, without a doubt, but I'm not quite sure how well it would be transfered into a stage show...IT would be difficult, without a doubt, but I suppose it could work...

Still...It would be a pity if they tried it and it turned out to be a complete disaster...

I actually think it has been staged before.

I'd love for this to happen. I wrote a script (HUGE nerd) for it awhile ago.

no! putting it on stage would ruin its magic. it could never capture the feeling of the film.

Tim Burton is really hot right now. I think, were a broadway show to be produced right now, it would have an audience to support it. First of all, as mentioned above, there are people who would see it because of its attachment to their childhood. Secondly, you would pick up a crowd of "goths" for which the Tim Burton movies, especially tnbc and Corpse Bride are very popular. Third, because the songs from the movie ARE actually good songs, musical lovers would be more likely to give it credential.

The interesting thing to ponder would be who would produce it. Disney produced the original movie via their sub-company Touchstone Pictures. While Disney Theatricals has the budget to do a stage play of this movie justice and "make magic", it does not quite fit the Disney vision (which is why they created Touchstone Pictures to distance it from the Disney brand).

It is a slightly temporal show. Obviously you would want to open it around Halloween to create a huge rush around Halloween that will remain strong until Christmas. If it can last through the Jan-Feb broadway slump and make it to the Tony's and pick up a Best Musical, then it could probably run a couple years and follow up with a successful tour and possibly West End run.

I can't find a suitable picture of him but oh boy would my daughter's boyf be just right to play Jack. He's 5'11" but still growing, his wrists are no greater than about 4" round and I think his biceps are about 4.5" Shocked

27" waist, skinny little legs that are straight up and down. I don't think his chest is any bigger than his waist!

He honestly reminds me of those starving children from Africa just without the distended tummy. I think I'm going to hold a fancy dress party some point and make him dress as Jack. I shall be dressing as Daffyd from Little Britain lol.
