The Light in the Piazza

i've heard the soundtrack and i'm in LOVE with the music. i think it's amazing.

however i'm having a hard time finding what the show is about. I know it's about an american girl in Italy. lol

anyone have any info??
is it a good show?

and the most important question.......is the music to hard to sing at an audition?
Bianca.

Light in the Piazza is and always will be one of my favorite shows...

however.. the music is NOT audition friendly. But, let me tell you, it is practically impossible to sight read, and is so intricate that it requires apt percision between pianist and vocalist.. that can't possibly be achieved without prior rehearsal..and will surely crash and burn when attempted with the jitters of an audition added into the mix as well.

What she said.

There's a synopsis of the show here: http://www.nonesuch.com/Hi_Band/piazzasynopsis.htm

I suppose. I've seen it twice, but it has never struck me as as inspiring or amazing as a lot of people say it is. The score is pretty but not all that interesting (it kind of floats around noncommittally and ends up sounding very monotonous after half an hour) and most of the songs could be cut by a verse without any harm. The story is fine but might have been better served as a straight play, not a musical.

For a funny (and, IMO, very accurate) take on the show, check out

hahaha that is a funny take on the show. I thought it was really good. The music is amazing and the whole production just reaffirms your belief that the world is good. i saw the production on TV when it was aired on PBS's Live from Lincoln Center.

Alternately, it can reaffirm your belief that it's okay to be retarded, as long as you're pretty.

I <33 Light in the Piazza!

The music is hard to play, but once you get used to it, I dont think it's as difficult...but that's just me...I have the CD & The vocal book.
Glissando

I remember coming home from a King and I rehearsal last summer and watching the rest of the Live at Lincoln Center broadcast...and falling in love with Aaron Lazar. And with the show, of course.

The music is absolutely beautiful.

And that abridged spoof script? Hilarious. Smile Definitely worth reading.
