The Grimmerie

Has anyone else seen this?!? It's great!

They have put out a book called The Grimmerie and it has tons of backstage info on the show, the making of..., interviews, costume and other tech info, stories behind the music and the show, AND in the back of the book the entire libretto is there!!! It's AWESOME!!!!

I saw it at B&N for $35 or $40, but you can buy it from Amazon.com for about $25!!

I'm sure most of you have seen it, but it you haven't check it out!!

Just wanted to share Very Happy
Salome

Its a very good backstage book. I bought it a while back. I usually buy all the hardcover companion books to shows. Ive got at least 25 of them.
MsDivaKate

My sister received it last year as a holiday present. We absolutely love it.
Salome

if you like Grimmerie you should by the compainon books to The Producers, Cabaret(revival) and especially the book "Sondheim" which covers all of Steves works up to asassins. the 3 best backstage coffee table books out there.
sadie1208

Fancy. We have Rent, Phantom and Cabaret in addition to the Wicked book. I also think my sister has the Les Mis book.
Salome

I have les miz too!

I'm at work trying to remember them all .lol

Where abouts can you buy the Grimmerie? I try to avoid buying stuff on the internet as much as possible, but my cousins are going to America in a few months and I want to tel then to get that as my Christmas present!! So it is just in any bookshop? Is it hard to find?

What a colection, Salome! What is the Les Mis one called, I might have to ask them for that one too!
MsDivaKate

I think just about any major chain bookstore sells it. Perhaps have them try a Borders or Barnes and Noble. Our grandmother bought my sister's copy of the Grimmerie at a Borders store and I've seen it in there here in NYC.

The Les Mis book is called Les Miserables: A History In The Making, I believe. Its a large, white hardcover.

The books cost about $30-40 USD from what I've seen.

You can get The Grimmerie for much cheaper online here. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1401308201/sr=1-1/qid=1154745007/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-6370873-2720755?ie=UTF8&s=books Here is the link for the Les Mis one. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1559703709/sr=1-1/qid=1154745103/ref=sr_1_1/104-6370873-2720755?ie=UTF8&s=books Happy Shopping!!!! Mr. Green
MsDivaKate

With the shipping price, the Wicked book will be the same as the in store price I believe. The Les Mis book on that Amazon is the paperback edition, not the hardcover.
swmustang878

Anything over $25 on Amazon is eligible for free shipping. Very Happy

That's pretty fancy. Very Happy I forgot about that!
happyguava

They ship over here don't they? (Sorry, I'm a new Amazon user!)
MsDivaKate

I'm unsure. The free shipping may not apply to international orders. You may want to poke around the website and see what type of information is listed.
swmustang878

I forgot we were talking England here. Here's The Grimmerie on the English Amazon site for 17.50 GBP or 33.08 USD. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1401308201/ref=sr_11_1/202-5160984-8423068?ie=UTF8
The Les Mis book is in paperback or hardcover, but for hardcover on Amazon, you must buy it used. Confused
Good Luck!
happyguava

Actually we are talking Australia! And we don't have our own Amazon site as far as I know. But I've been wrong before. Smile

I'll check with my friend Felicity. She might know these things, as she also lives in Australia.

They have a book like that for Les Mis? What is it called??

And yes, the Grimmerie is amazing. Smile

I havent seen the show yet, but ive watched a LOT of various bits of different Wicked performances on YouTube. Ive just ordered the cd, but i was wondering whether to get this? Just how much does it tell you- about the make up, about funny stories and other interesting stuff?
ive read the descriptions ive seen here and on both amazon sites, and it sounds brilliant, but i am still a little unsure about whether to get it. It is quite a lot harder to get Wicked stuff over here in the UK- i had to get the CD shipped in, and lets just say that a 3% price reduction from amazon isnt all that inspiring.
those who have the book, can you tell me just how detailed it is, more about its good points, and things its missing, or which it has which annoys you- if you can think of any. um, is there any chance of seeing what the inside looks like- you know, a pic of an average page (im quite intrigued about these descriptions about how the pages look worn etc), um, something about the make up, if possible. Im not asking to see the bits that i just want- its just that that would be a major selling point to myself (and to my parents to convince them im not just getting obsessed), i would like to see if that bit at least is what im looking for. if so, then there is a good chance, the majority of the rest of the book will be to.
a lot of questions, and a lot of requests, i know. Ive tried to put this across as best and as fully as i can- but you must excuse me if it seems that all i want is answers and questions, its quarter to 1 in the morning- my brain is certainatly not up to scratch at the moment.
thanks for any help.

I absolutely love this book! I love all of the information in it, as well as the design of the book itself...like how it's made to look old and such...
SapphireNight

I've been trying to find it in England- i cant seem to find it in any book shops. I wanna have a good flick through, though, before i decide whether to buy. Its pretty expencive, i wanna have a little look before i try to get it online.
it sounds brilliant though. Just what sort of things does it say? what are some of the facts which amazed you? how much did they tell you about the make up, etc?
I cant find this book anywhere, so im going to get my info from any of you who already have it to convince myself to buy it!

It's so cool! It tells all about how they make Elphie green, The Wigs Costumes, sets, Eveything! It has Exscripts from the book, PARTS of the Libretto in it, Fan Letters, Stuff about the Charactors, It Has EVERYTHING!It has like 192 pages or somthing. It is a really Great book!
What Is This Feeling?

The Grimmerie is a DEFINATE must have for ALL true Wicked fans! It is like the best "the making of..." Broadway behind- the- scenes books you could ever buy!!!
happyguava

Happy Birthday to me, I got mine this morning!! Razz T

This book has everything - I can't put it down. And it's so prettiful the way they make it look like the actual Grimmerie. My brother looked at it and went "they could at least have got you a new one!". I'm so excited! Very Happy
Monsieur D'Arque

I personally prefer the Rent bible or the Producers bible to the Grimmerie, because despite it being much more aesthetically appealing, the fact that it is incomplete is sort of a turnoff. The Producers bible has the entire libretto, even deleted scenes and lines Mel personally cut from the show. A whole extra musical number!
