The GameDoes anyone else (who is currently playing "The Game") despise this song because of how many references it makes to "The Game"? (If you aren't sure which game I"m talking about, it's the one where you can't think about the fact that you're playing the game...) I heard it and got incredibly angry, however I now use it as a song to bug my friends. Sorry if I've just made anyone else hate this song...but I just had to bring this up.

I never even payed attention to how many times they sing "the game". This has always been one of my favorite songs.

LOVE that song. Its hilarious. My university did Damn Yankees during my junior year and this brought down the house every single night. (it also helped that we probably had the "gayest" baseball team ever---seriously they had to have sessions to teach them how to "throw like men" and during one scene-forget which it is-in which the players are making all manly comments, my friend Marc yelled out "Beer!" because it was the most masculine thing he could think of.)

Why was it cut from the movie? Did they think it was too risqué or something? And for that matter, why did they cut "A Man Doesn't Know" and "Near to You," two of my favorite ballads in the show?

The Game was considered too risque' for the Hays Code.
they cut the other 2 songs so they could add a mediocre song in hopesd of getting an oscar nod for best song..it didnt happen.

The Hays Code was RIDICULOUSLY strict. I can't believe some of the things they made studios change or cut...like ALL of the good lyrics in Kiss Me, Kate (probably the most bowlderized film musical EVER).
And the thing about songs having to be NEW to the film in order to qualify for the best song Oscar is ridiculous as well when it comes to musicals. Obviously it was put in place to keep a movie from getting an Oscar just because it included some old standard that everybody was familiar with already, but they ought to make an exception for musicals, when the song was written for the original stageplay (I assume that this is also what's behind songs like A Woman in Love from Guys and Dolls or From This Moment On from Kiss Me Kate, both IMO second-rate songs that either replaced a better song or simply slowed down the show).
