The G... why does he have to sing a G...

So, the Captain is one of my dream roles, and most of the stuff is right in my range, F#2 to E4. I'm a bass, and I can handle that all just fine.

But his final note, at the "concert" in the duet with Maria, is a G4. I freakin' hate that note, because there are alot of baritones that cap there, and it's just out of my range.

So now the rant is over, would it be acceptable to falsetto the G?
music is my life!!!

i'm not sure but you should be able to. also if you proved your worth in the other songs you may be able to lower it...

maybe you could transpose it...

hmm...

something like that doesnt matter when casting a role. just act the hell out of it., you'll be fine.

In the version I was in they cast the Captain because he fit the role really well, and they definitely had to lower some notes for him. As long as you prove you are right for the role there should be no problem.

What song is this in?

It's at the end of the concert version of "So Long, Farewell"...Honestly, Maria and the Captain sing it in unison, so it would work to create some harmony in that last section anyway...
Monsieur D'Arque

My Captain stayed on the G3 while Maria sang the G4.
