The FantasticksHas any one seen this show? I would love to go see it. And was wondering what it is about. The main reason I want to go see it is because Anthony Fedorov from Season 4 of American Idol is playing thr role of Matt. |

It's about this boy and this girl who meet even though their parents have forbidden them to see eachother. BUT in the next scene we learn that their parents actually DID want them to meet and that is why they forbid their children from seeing eachother (reverse psychology). So then in order to give their parents a reason to suddenly like the boy, they decide to stage a "rape" in which the boy will save the girl. And then they're all happily ever after. End of act one.
Well, in act two, the boy and the girl are sick of eachother and their parents start fighting. So then the boy goes off and the girl gets seduced by the narrator. Meanwhile, she can see all the trouble and misery the boy is in, but the narrator prevents her from seeing it. In the end (for real) they end up happily ever after again. YEAH! Okay, so the plot isn't anything special, but I love the staging of the musical and the score. Although I have not seen the new off-Broadway production, the Fantasticks (in general) is a must-see musical. |

I have only seen the movie and I was wondering how it compares to the actual show. I really like the movie but my friend says it is very different from the actual show.

The movie is VERY different. The problem is that the musical takes place in a very abtract environment. Although I have never seen the movie, I must imagine it was difficult for the film makers to place the show into a real environment (like Godspell).

the film singlehandedly destroyed one of the great musicals of all time.

Re: The Fantasticks
And my friend, Julie, is playing Louisa! She did a production of 42nd Street with me and then went on to do a bunch of other fun stuff! |

I've seen it twice since Anthony Fedorov joined the cast. I'd never seen this show before and it's great ! Very funny, great music, really holds your attention. I won't even mind seeing it numerous times before Anthony finishes his run.
And the cast is first-rate. Real stars, including Tom Jones who wrote the play and originated the role of Henry 47 years ago ! I can't say enough about Julie, who makes a perfect Louisa. I heard she is leaving in a few weeks for another job. Probably a bigger show on Broadway - she deserves it. Mortimer is hysterical, the fathers are perfect and the Wall is hot, lol ! As for Anthony, I was very surprised by his acting skills. For someone who'd never acted before, not even on a high school stage, he did a very good job. He is just a natural, I guess. Overall, a very enjoyable experience. |

Jules is great! As for the other job...I'm not sure if it's a decision I agree with. She's going to Barrington Stage to play Maria in West Side Story...she recently ended the international tour, also playing Maria... I'm not sure I would leave a job like "The Fantasticks" in the city and with a headliner for a regional job, but hey! Different strokes for different folks! And she's on the fast track to the inevitable anyway...(Broadway!) She's a talented girl and all around great person! |

John Deyle is playing Hucklebee and Martin Vidnovic is playing Bellomy. And Julie will make a perfect Maria. I agree - Broadway is definitely in her future. A very sweet girl too - I met her at the stage door and have her autograph. Check out this backstage tour of the Fantasticks with the whole crew: http://www.broadwayworld.com/videoplay.cfm?colid=18074 And here Anthony and Julie perform "Soon It's Gonna Rain" (at the end of the interview) http://www.ew.com/ew/package/0,,20007164_20013312,00.html |

I've performed with Julie before...we did a production of 42nd Street together. It's so great to see how far she's come! And thanks for posting the links! She's livin' the dream! |
