THE PROBLEM HERE IS THAT YOU HAVE TO BE 16-21 TO PLAY HER, AND I'M 15, SO I WAS JUST WONDERING IF YOU THINK I SHOULD AUDITION FOR IT ANYWAYS. THE AUDITIONS ARE JULY 23 AND JULY 24TH. SO ANY HELP THAT YOU GIVE ME BEFORE THEN WOULD BE GREAT. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

STORY TIME!!! Once upon a time a local theatre was holding auditions for their summer play, George Washington Slept Here. There was this one character which was supposed to be the same age as myself, but it said "able to play 15". I said, "hey, I am 15", but I didn't audition because I figured it would go to someone older. Guess what? The role when to this hoe of a child actor who was two years younger than me, Go figure. Although Luisa will most likely be cast as an 18/19 year old girl, I say "go for it!" The important things at your audition will be to show a child-like innocence and a beautiful soprano voice.

Thanks! :-)Thank you sooooo much for replying, I proably will audition but if the part doesn't go to me atleast I'll know that I tried my best. It's just that usually in my local theater thing they already have people picked out before they audition and it get's kind of irritating. Example: I tried out for THE WIZARD OF OZ and I was auditioning for the wicked witch, and I got like about 25 compliments about how well I did and then it went to a girl who was just like 1 year older then me, and the director told me that I did great but they were looking for a girl who was a year older then me no matter how much they werent good. So yeah that kind of dissapointed me and I don't want that to happen again to me. Atleast this time I know the age ranges.

I have played Luisa twice. The first time they wanted 18 and older and I went in and got it at 15. I'm playing her again right now and I'm 17. For audition songs, the first time they wanted to hear a song from the show so I sang Much More but the second time I sang Moonfall from The Mystery of Edwin Drood because it is a song about being innocent but having an infatuaion with somebody, like Luisa and El Gallo.

Sushi,
Thanks for replying! I do have a question for you how did you get the part of Luisia? I mean I'm really glad you got her and all but like I need all the help I can get so if you could respond to this that would be good also! Thanks again

What exactly do you mean, how did you get her? I mean, keep in mind she is a young, impressionable girl. I personally think she is in love with being in love. And only comes to realize her feelings for Matt after she is shown that the world is not all it's cracked up to be. I play her to be very childish in the first act. I play hop-scotch during the introduction and swing my feet when I'm sitting on my stool.

What you said helps! Thanks! I only asked that because I have like no idea really who Luisia really is and what the show is about except 2 people who are forced to fall in love by their 2 fathers and theres a bandit involved named el gallo and theres a wall or something...... yeah i don't really know a lot about the show or the characters! But I'm trying to figure that out so thanks again!

a good start to auditioning is to research the show. buy the cast recording, see if you can find a copy of the book, listen, and read. it's the best way to get to know a show, much better than anyone else's input or an internet summary.
