The Disney MovieI don't know if this has been talked about before, but how do you think the Disney movie went? I loooooove it so much better than the original (with the exception of Carol Burnette - <3). What do you guys think?

I hate the original. Although it's performances were better, it butchered the show by cutting several songs. I don't prefer the Disney version, but I voted for it because it is more similar (yet still very different) from the Broadway version. I also like the Disney version for its faster pace. But I like the old movie for it's cast. Thus, I think a the old movie should have been done with the script of the Disney version (plus the cabinet scene and the radio scene) with the cast of the old film. Honestly, you just have to watch both versions to get the full experience.

Even though I do like the original 1982 movie version I like the 1999 Disney version more, mainly because its truer to the stage show.

The only part I really liked about the original was the tap dance at the very end.... so when I was little I used to watch the entire thing just for that one part. It was very refreshing when the new one came out... of course I didn't buy it until I was 17.

iam glad they remade it.

I also must say that I love the appearance of ANdrea McAardle in the Disney film. Her voice has only gotten better and it is golden. I loved listening to her "NYC", much better after hearing her sing "Tomorrow" for years. I wish she would perform more on Broadway. I know she did Gypsy a few years back. She could make a neat replacement as Christine Colgate or Jolene Oakes in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

I like both for different reasons, but voted for the Disney one again for the same reasons already discussed. My sister just did Annie Junior with her school (She's a teacher) and they are doing Aladdin this year. I don't like the cheesy disneyness of the disney version. I love both Lilly's i would not be able to pick my favourite. Tim Curry would be my fav rooster and the 82 mrs Hannigan (Too lazy to go find her name) is my fav mrs Hannigan. Kathy Bates just isn't mean enough IMO.
anyway just my 2c

i have to say disney because the ongs they wrote in on the original stink! Also when i did annie, someone asked when we were gonna practice let's go to the movies, so we had to tell her that it wasn't in the bway show! so the original totally gets people confused!

I have to say the Disney version... I just adore the girl that played Annie!

The older one has more sentimental value (I used to watch it all the time as a kid) and, for me, a much better cast. But when it comes down to it, I suppose the Disney version is the better movie, because it is much closer to the stage show. After having been in Annie, the musical, it was so refreshing to see something truer to what I'd done.

I've never seen the whole disney one..but the parts I've seen are better..but I love the cast of the old one..I love both Bernadette Peters and Kristen Chenoweth as Lily..but Carol Burnet is the ultimate miss hannigan and I like Anne Reinking as Grace a lot too..I grew up with the old movie..so it's more sentimental but the new disney one is truer to the stage show..I too did Annie jr. (as Annie) and I've seen a few productions of it..and the disney one is pretty true to the show 1but gotta love the old cast!

I think I'm rather partial to the original. I love Carol Burnett, Anne Reinking and Bernadette Peters. I think its because its was the first version I ever seen and was horribly obsessed with it as a child. Though I do agree the Disney version stayed more true to the show. Had the orignal kept the same cast but remained true to the show I would hands down say it was the best.

I voted the original movie, purely because my sisters and I went through two VHS copies in the 80's, it was watched that often. I like the Disney version because it is closer to the Stage version but it's a little too Disney-afide! Carol Burnett is a legend my eye's and I don't think Kathy Bates was good enough at all to fill her shoes. I was really dissapointed because she is an amazing actress and I think she should stick to straight acting!

at least the original film had the legendary Albert Finney in a perfect performance as Warbucks..comic genius Carol Burnett as Hannigan and Tim Curry and Bernadette Peters as Rooster and Lily.
the Disney remake miscast every role except Rooster and Lily.
Kathy Bates was boring as Hannigan and they cut her drinkingf for christ's sake!
Garber was too nice from the start as Warbucks, and the whole film was dull.
the original isnt perfect but its miles ahead of Disney's castration.

I'm split between the two.
The Disney film was closer to the stage show. But Daddy Warbucks having a black secretary and marrying her...in the 1930s...nnnnnno....I don't think so. And I didn't like how they reversed the roles of Lily and Hannigan when trying to get Annie.
The Original movie was good. Loved Carol Burnett but they didn't make her mean enough and at the end she went soft. Didn't see the point in having Punjab and what's with adding the helicopter? It served a purpose at the end but the ending was sort of weird.

This is actually very difficult. I like Albert Finney much better as Warbucks. I adore Carol Burnett as Miss Hannigan. Her rendition of Little Girls is hilarious..."Little shoes, little socks, everything around me is...little..." lol. Tim Curry was a great Rooster and of course Peters was a great Lily. But overall I think I liked Disney's better because it was more accurate...but the performances, as a whole, are better in the original.

It's a Disney version of it. It's definitely not a Disney movie, per se.

I loved that part too! Andrea also played Belle in Beauty and the Beast on Broadway around 2000, I remember because it was my first Broadway show and I was in first grade. She was amazing as Belle, I still remember that.
As for which movie I like better, I'm torn but I think I have to go with Disney just because Kristin Chenoweth does such a great job with Lily who's like my favorite character EVER. Although I think that Ms. Hannagin (sp?) really wasn't the same without the drinking. There was like an obvious part missing there. But that's what you get when it's Disney I guess.

another majopr problem with the newer film is.Miss Hannigan isnt a drunk who hits the kids. she is too passive a villian when Bates played her.

I rented the Disney movie and I recognized this! Carol is by far my favorite Hannigan between the two.

Welcome to Disney. Everything has to be 100% squeaky clean or else everyone goes ballistic.

I actually really like certain Disney productions, and plan to audition for the role of Prudence in their cruise ship musical "Twice Charmed." Disney can be brilliant.
I also really like "Annie", obviously enough.
That said, Disney's "Annie" was terrible. Everything deep was taken out. The best thing they did was respect the musical score, but the movie itself was far too politically correct and butchered. Blah.
Seriously, a black woman would not have held Grace Ferrell's position. I'm not a racist. This is the simple truth. This is just one of the many things wrong with the 1999 film.

Does anyone else think they lowered 'Tomorrow'? When I was little I sang Tomorrow in a lower version and I swear it's the exact same thing.. huh.
