The clock set in Wicked.Okay. I have'nt read the Wicked novel. So pleez tell me. What do the clocks have anything to do with wicked?

A lot.
Elphaba was born inside a huge clock that is the center of a religion called the "pleasure" religion, the Time Dragon Clock. This religion is considered evil by many and it's theorized that this place of birth is the cause of her wickedness (which of course isn't true).
The set is also symbolic of the idea that the show is a flashback, like Glinda turned back the clocks so the audience could watch what has already happened.

If you look over the actual stage, there is a giant puppeted dragon. There is what looks like organ pipes behind/over that. Combined with the clock set, that is meant to be the Time Dragon Clock.
In the book, it is really a moving mini adult puppet theatre, with several different windows to display various scenes, and a great puppeted dragon on top. It is the size of a wagon, if i remember correctly, and there is a clock face, which points 1 minute to midnight, and doesnt tell the time. The 'performances' it gives are adult in nature, and generally end up with the audience forming a lynch mob, and one or two people, who were obsenly featured in the performance, dissapearing after that night.
The clock also gave Elphaba a private performance, about her conception, to the point where she was now. That is probably where the idea of the whole 'set in the clock' thing comes from.

Although just to point out, the musical version of the Time Dragon clock looks quite different to that in the book, and seemingly serves no purpose, wheras the book's Time Dragon Clock has a lot of stuff going on with it.
The book dictates that the clock is always set at one minute to midnight.

i always thought it was there so that it looked like the whole musical was a 'time dragon performance,' sorta like elphie sees in the book.
