The Butterfly MotifI went to see a production of My Fair Lady last night(incidentally the one one I didn't get into and by the looks of the cast list I was the only one not to get in!) and it was fantastic.
But the main point of this post is because of what I call 'The Butterfly Motif'. During this production, they wove butterflies in everywhere. My guess is the symbolism of Eliza changing from a flower girl to a real lady.
Henry Higgins's wallpaper was hideous orange with a butterfly pattern
Henry Higgins had boxes with butterflies pinned to them
Eliza wore a butterfly brooch in one scene
At the Embassy Ball, there were butterfly stainglass windows
One of the ladies at the Embassy Ball had a glittery buttefly ornament in her hair
I spotted ten butterflies in Mrs. Higgins's garden
The pillows on the couch had butterfies embroidered
There was probably more, but it really caught my attention not matter how understated it was. I have no idea if anyone else noticed or not. What do you think? Brilliant new idea or someone's attempt at being creative

thats one possibility. the director also could have just had the butterfly motif because butterflies were a popular Edwardian pattern.

I think that's brilliant...
Of course, I'm butterfly obsessed, as all are pretty much aware of here.
Butterflies are indicative of major transitions in one's life.
And those transitions do not come without major struggle, especially as you are working to achieve your goal. Those who work through their struggles are the biggest victors of all...
Interesting story:
A biology teacher had his class nurture caterpillars through the process of becoming butterflies. He told half of his students to break the cocoon a little at the first sign of the butterfly struggling to get out to help the butterfly...
The other half of the class he told to just sit and wait and watch the butterflies struggle.
The half that had the students "helping" them came out all deformed and couldn't fly...
The other half were beautiful and strong...
Anyway...now I've gotten off on a tangent! LOL!

That's pretty cool! Wish our teachers did that with us, but no they had to hatch during gym class.

I called up a friend of mine who was in the production to congratulate her and she confirmed that I was right and I did get them all.
She also mentioned that Eliza wore more and more purple as time went on.
