The Annie Dictionary/Encyclopedia

I am currently in Annie as many people on here are. The script references many things from the thirties--weird words, famous people, etc. As I look these various things up, I will post them here. I encourage you guys to do the same. Feel free also to make any corrections.

Coney Island- An amusement park in New York City.

Hoover, Herbert- Appointed Secretary of Commerce in 1921. He was president of the United States from 1929 to 1933. The Great Depression began under his presidency.

Hoover, J. Edgar- the founder of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in its present form and its director from May 10, 1924, until his death in 1972.

Madame Chiang Kai-shek- Wife of the president of China. Of her and her sisters, she was known as the one who loved power.

Mellon, Andrew- an American banker, industrialist, philanthropist, art collector and Secretary of the Treasury from March 4, 1921 until February 12, 1932.

Mickey Finn- a slang term for a drug-laced drink.

Francis Perkins was the first female cabinet member. She was made secretary of labour by FDR. hope this helps
