The "Voice" at Audition...?

I have an audition for Little Shop coming up (for high school, mind you). They gave us an info packet that included a monologue for the girls ("It's just a daydream of mine..." right before STG) and one for the boys. They'll have us sing at the audition too, but they usually spring the song on us the afternoon of (ridiculous). So after reading the Audrey monologue over a few times, I have to ask your opinions... would you use her famous voice/accent in delivering the monologue at the audition? or would it be better to read it in my 'normal' voice? I was thinking about going ahead with it, because I'll end up being 1 of like 3 girls who actually knows anything about the show/or does research. I thought it might look a little better to the audition board. But now I think I might just be overanalyzing. so... opinions? auditions are early January, right after I get back to school drom Christmas Break... I'd really like to get a jump on perfecting the monologue.

I vote normal voice, they probably want to see you as the character you have worked up, not copying the character that someone else developed.

I didn't use my character voice until the callback, and I was told by the directors that my vocal work/quality had a lot to do with my getting the part of Audrey.

So, I would say if you can pull it off, then pull it out in the callbacks (never in an initial audition, unless the director asks you to). If you're self-concious about it, then simply focus on developing the character as best you can, without "putting anything on".

Oh, and I would get the concept of her "famous" voice out of your head. It sounds like you're referring to Ellen Greene's interpretation. It can be quirky, but it should be your own brand.
