The 5 Phantoms

I know there are 5 different versions of "Phantom" out in the world. The only two I know are ALW's version and Maury Yeston's. Can someone tell me about the other three???

To be fair, I think there are many more versions out there. The ones I know of:

*ALW stage musical, full version
*ALW stage musical, shortened Las Vegas version
*ALW stage musical. non-replica versions (Hungary and Poland, the latter with swordfight ala movie)
*Ken Hill's "Phantom"
*Yeston/Kopit's "Phantom"
*A touring version by Ivar Jabobs, with Jennifer Marshall and Brannon Hall Garcia, has visited northern Europe, but is American: http://www.piletilevi.ee/?lang=est&id=148,1333
*A touring version in Germany, with Deborah Sasson as Christine: CLICKY
*"Phantom on ice"

And probably many, many more.....
Phantom On A Budget

Don't forget Falstein's stage musical with David Staller.

Phantom on Ice???????????????

Tom Alonso DID write Phantom of the Opera, much closer to the original novel. I like the music. It should be re-opening in Baltimore some time this or next year. Fingers Crossed.

Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera.

Falstein's Phantom of the Opera.

Yeston and Kopit's Phantom.

And Ken Hill's Phantom of the Opera.

Those are the 5 well known stage versions. I hope that helps. The Ken Hill website is temporarily closed I guess, but will probably be back very soon. Hopefully anyway.

Thanks for this great information! Mr. Green

I love how the German touring version has the Phantom with a half mask, a creation of Webber's (had something to do with allowing the actor playing the part to show facial expressions...that's also why the official poster for Webber's phantom has a full mask with the rose-they didn't have time to change it to a half-mask after the choice was made to cut the mask in hlaf and have a half-deformed Phantom.)

I auditioned for the Tom Alonso version a couple days ago. Yes, you're right. Tom Alonso's "Phantom" will be in Baltimore from September 5-November 16 of this year. PM me for more info. I have a lot, because I used to do shows at the theatre where it's going to be at.

Thanks for the dates! I hope you get in! I was planning on going to see it already, I just needed to know when. PMing you for the name of the theatre because I'm a bum and I totally lost the sheet it was written on. T.T

AAH I'm listening to Tom Alonso's right now and I love it!! "That's The Way It's Done Around Here" is awesome and I love the random mad chuckling in the background.

Indeed. I love it. "We welcome your a**...your a**!?!?" "Thats ascendancy..." "Oh........."

I'm only familiar with the ALW version and the Kopit/Yeston version. We kinda saw that version on accident. Mom got tickets in advance for "Phantom," and we didn't realize until about a week before we went to see it that it was a completely different show. But I loved it.

Yeston and Kopit phantom is pretty neat. I saw it a few months back in Westchester.

Ken Hill's is pretty much the most comic one, ALW is pretty serious, Yeston and Kopit used some artistic liscence, but it pretty much all works out. Tom Alonso's is pretty much the most loyal to the original book. David Staller's is odd. But not bad.

The CDs are good to have, I have all but Falstein's (Staller Phantom), because Falstein's never came out with one. The rest have CDs out, though Tom Alonso's isn't currently out (he's hoping to re-release it when the show is in Baltimore), and Ken Hill's is harder to find, though the Dress Circle has them. Yeston and Kopit's isn't hard to find. I got my copy at Barnes and Nobles.
