That ONE audition songWhat's that one audition song that has always gotten you the part? What's the one song that everyone knows you for?
For me I'd have to say it's the first 16 bars of Green Green Dress. I usually am pretty capable of working it out and it's gotten me quite a few good parts.

"Anthem" from CHESS. I've used it SO much lately, and always with good results. It most recently got me cast as Bobby Strong in URINETOWN, and called back for Younger Brother in RAGTIME (which I find out about on Thursday!).

Sadly, I don't have one song that always gets me the part. My MT choices are only so so but I usually end up with great roles; my opera choices are pretty darn good but I don't get cast there!
I won't give away my best opera/operetta song, but I will say this: Gilbert and Sullivan are fantastic acting songs. Not always very technically challenging, but they're usually great to show off comedic acting.

Actually i don't have that ONE song! People know me for one role. Cosmo Brown in singin' in the rain. Thats what usually gets me cast. I could sing any old nonsense. They just say things like "Oh yes...you played Cosmo Brown didn't you..." grrr. In a way i wish i'd not taken that part! LOL!

I can kind of agree to an extent. I've never gotten "the part"... when I've had to pick a song myself. I've only gotten "the part" (Rolf and Warbucks) at a CT which always has us do a song from the show. Yet I'm only 16 so I don't worry. I'm just now a junior in HS and am just now starting to get major roles at school.

Me too. The only time I ever got the part that I really wanted was when we just had to sing 16 bars of a chorus song. No choice whatsoever.
I always seem to do well with character songs. I did really well at an ausition a few years back singing "Adelaide's Lament" and then this year with "Vanilla Ice Cream".

If I Can't Love Her from Beauty and the Beast - thats if they let you do the whole song, has such a good build up and really shows range from bottom to top
also, it's hard to speak my heart from parade... always a good one
