Tell Me About the BeastSo I auditioned for the BatB last night and received a callback for Beast. Tonight.
Right after I get out of school I'm going to work, then I'll be home for maybe twenty minutes before heading to the theater for the callback.
Vocally, my voice is PERFECT for the role; it's the acting that I'm worried about. Also, I'm eighteen (though I look older), so I have that going against me (since the role is generally played by men at least in their thirties).
I've worked with the director before and know that he's VERY big into personality and embodying a character, so I just would love to know as much about the beast as I could learn. I saw it on Broadway and I saw a different production of BatB that this director directed, but those were a while ago and I don't really remember the show to a tee.
Any help would be awesome.

Don't worry about age in your case. The Beast is young. He's not any older than 21 during the course of the show, as the curse is supposed to be lifted before his 21st Birthday, or he will remain a Beast forever.
The Prince/Beast is a character who has pushed people away because of the way he feels about himself, although he was doing this to people even before he became a Beast, shunning people who were different, letting his ego grow out of control, etc. There's a lot of that theme to the character and to his interactions with Belle. This is a young man who is losing his humanity little by little, and falling into deep despair about it. This is also, and this is important, someone who blames other peopel for his condition. It's not until Belle arrives that he begans to learn to take responsibility for his actions, and to learn some accountability. Belle brings that out.
Have fun with it, though. There are a lot of moments that poke fun at the interactions between men and women. Be sure to play up the funny, vulnerable side of the character, even when you're trying to be scary (It's something of an act that The Beast puts on so people will leave him alone and he won't have to interact much with them), as most directors who do this show are idiots and only want to see that, because this is, after all, a kids show. . Even when they read you for his "scary" moments and not those.
I'm not bitter.
