Telephone Dance: "a la Orientale"?

Hi Everyone! My theater group is doing a production of Cabaret, and I had a question.

During the telephone dance in the 1987 revised script (and possibly other versions, too), a boy and a girl are to "dance 'a la Orientale,' with lips pressed together, for nine bars, before they finally breathe."

I've searched through various libraries and video websites to find nothing resembling the dance mentioned above. Does anyone know what dancing a la Orientale looks like (the footwork and all that)?

Thanks!!!
TheWitch

I saw the video of that production a couple of years ago. I don't remember the dance exactly but it looked almost tango-ish the only thing was that they were kissing the entire time. so even if the male twirled the female their lips kept in canstant contact. I'm not a big fan of the telephone number but that was a pretty fun addition to it.

Um... how did they... sing? Were they all ventriloquists?

the dancing a la orientale takes place during a dance break in the song. the rest of the song has a typical polka rhythm to it besides one break that sounds a lot like the chareslton
