Ted Neely wroth seeing?I recieved a booklet today from NJPAC that says that they will be performing Jesus Christ Superstar. Staring Ted Neely. Is the production worth seeing? I heard that he's really good, but I've never seen him perform personally.

Is the production the best one of JCS ever done? No.
Is it worth seeing for Ted Neeley's talent if the 1973 film and his performance record in the show were an influence on your life? Yes.
Is it worth going to meet Ted? Even if you didn't like his performance, hell yeah. He's a nice guy, and good with people.

I've heard mixed reviews. Some people who have seen Neeley have told me he was wonderful, while others said he sounded tired the whole show.

His acting is not as good as before, but his singing is amazing!

It was a great show when I saw it. Mr. Neeley was very good and I forgot that he was 600 yrs old. Fantastic voice and stage presence.
The show is well done. I must admit, the set, others singers bothered me a bit (due to bootlegs I have seen). But when you are in the room with them. Wow. Just wow.
I didn't get to meet Mr. Neeley after the show. Some mysterious "friend" showed up backstage and the meet and greet was cancelled.

That's not uncommon. Unfortunately, we only found later that if you wait long enough, he'll come out anyway.

I think the present tour is awful. The only thing that saves it is Neeley. The previous tour with Carl Anderson was much better.

Only members of the cast I really like are Annas, Simon, and Herod.
Caiaphas would've been really good if he didn't break into lyric tenor on the high notes.

I saw the tour back in 1995 with both Neely and Anderson. It was awesome. My friend went to get a drink at the bar and bumped into Neely by accident while he was on his way backstage. He was very courteous to her. She ran back to the table and said "Tammy, I've been touched by Jesus". We had a good chuckle over it.
I am going to see the current tour in Cleveland in about a month. I would see it just for the sake of Neely's performance but Anderson's absence will be noticed (it's like having your Super Bowl caliber QB retire and having to watch a rookie take over). This time, I'm going with my mom. I did warn her that I cry at every ALW play I attend (I also cried at A Chorus Line - how could you not, with all of those dysfunctional childhood stories?). I bawl when Evita dies, during "40 Lashes" and when Judas sings his version of IDKHTLH, when Christine chooses Raoul over the Phantom, during Memory from Cats. Of course, I also think Stephen King has written some touching books too (The Green Mile, The Stand).
I guess I'll have my own review after February 27. I just know that I would not miss a chance to see Neely perform again.

It might be a little late now.

A little late? I realize Anderson is deceased but I was told Neely is performing on this tour. Is this the wrong information?
