2007 Headshot

COREY GLOVER (Judas) is best known as the lead singer and one fourth of the pioneering, Grammy winning, platinum selling band, Living Colour.

The steps Corey took to reach this point in his career are well known. As a founding member of Living Colour, Corey helped prove that not only could black guys kick out the jams, but that they could be embraced by a vast expanse of fans. Living Colour earned numerous industry awards including back-to-back Grammys for Best Hard Rock Performance for 'Cult of Personality' and "Time's Up."

Corey and Living Colour emerged as one of the most influential rock acts of all time: regularly performing to sold out arenas and selling millions of albums. As vocal proponents for black self-reliance and pride, they broke down more than their fair share of musical barriers and served as role models for other black bands who had their sights set on hard rock recognition.

CREW

TIM RICE (Lyrics) was born in 1944. He began song writing in 1965 in which year the first song he wrote, 'That's My Story' (tune as well as words), was recorded by a rock group called the Nightshift whose career never recovered. That same year he met fellow budding songwriter Andrew Lloyd Webber whose musical ambitions were in theatre rather than rock or pop. They teamed up and wrote four musicals together from 1965–1978.

The first, The Likes of Us (1965-6) was performed for the first time in 2005 and became available on CD just 40 years after its creation. The other three, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (1968), Jesus Christ Superstar (1969-71) and Evita (1976-78} were more immediate successes.

Feeling certain that they could never top this lot, the pair went their separate ways in the early eighties, whereupon ALW immediately topped that lot with Cats. Tim Rice then wrote Blondel (1983), a mediaeval romp, with Stephen Oliver, which ran for a year in London but not for long anywhere else. This was followed in 1986 by Chess, in collaboration with ABBA's Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson.

Chess had a healthy run in the West End but flopped on Broadway in 1988, the New York Times bloke being particularly forceful in his disapproval. In 1989 Tim translated the famous French musical Starmania (by Michel Berger and Luc Plamondon) into English, which merely resulted in a hit album – in France.

In the nineties he worked primarily and happily with the Disney empire, contributing lyrics to the movies Aladdin (music: Alan Menken) and The Lion King (music: Elton John and Hans Zimmer), and to the stage shows Beauty and the Beast (Alan Menken), The Lion King and Aida (both Sir Elton). Between Disney commitments, he wrote the words for Cliff Richard's theatrical blockbuster Heathcliff (music: John Farrar), which toured the UK in 1995-96.

He is currently reworking an operatic musical he had written with Alan Menken (King David), and on new treatments, for both stage and screen, of Chess, the New York Times bloke having been replaced. He also has a brand new idea, which may or may not see the light of day. He has won a variety of awards, mainly for the wrong thing, or for simply turning up. He lives in London, Cornwall and on the motorway between the two, has three children, his own cricket team and a knighthood.

2006 Bio: ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER (Music) is the composer of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, By Jeeves, Evita, Variations and Tell Me on a Sunday later combined as Song & Dance, Cats, Starlight Express, The Phantom of the Opera, Aspects of Love, Sunset Boulevard, Whistle Down the Wind, The Beautiful Game and The Woman in White. He composed the film scores of Gumshoe and The Odessa File, and a setting of the Latin Mass, Requiem, for which he won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Composition.

He has also produced in the West End and on Broadway not only his own work but the Olivier award-winning plays La Bęte and Daisy Pulls It Off. In summer 2002 in London, he presented the groundbreaking A.R. Rahman musical Bombay Dreams. In 2004 he completed the film version of The Phantom of the Opera directed by Joel Schumacher.

He has been a theatre owner since acquiring the Palace Theatre in 1983 and now owns seven London theatres including the Palace, the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and the London Palladium.

His awards include seven Tonys, three Grammys, six Oliviers, a Golden Globe, an Oscar, an International Emmy, the Praemium Imperiale and the Richard Rodgers award for Excellence in Musical Theatre. He was knighted in 1992 and created an honorary life peer in 1997.

In 2004 he completed the film version of The Phantom of the Opera directed by Joel Schumacher. I saw it in Thousand Oaks. Probably one of the most amazing theatre expirences ever! And meeting Ted Neeley was awesome!
superdave

Looks like they have changed some people out, since the 2006 leg. I loved the dude who played Caiaphas and the girl who played Mary Magdalene a whole lot. Is Glover going to keep doing it???? I hope not.
Brother Marvin Hinten, S.

Glover's contract allegedly runs out in July. However, don't knock it if you haven't seen it recently -- he's really grown into the role.

Ted's new official website

Ted has an official website that he just opened (March 2007), which lists the most current dates and locations of this current tour.

He wasnt bad, He just wasnt good enough... he was definitely the most weakest preformer on stage. Neeley kicked rear the night I saw him, I had chill bumps in Gethsamene--and he had a standing ovation after that song.
Lazarus (Adam G)

I like Glover, but he's far from perfect. His voice is griddy, but he doesn't put enough heart into the songs.

I'll be seeing this in two weeks. I can't friggin' wait!
Celeste_SM

I'm really amazed at all the praise for Ted Neely in this thread. The show was fine (but I'd be hard pressed to NOT enjoy JCS), but Ted Neely is not all that amazing to me. His vocals were poor, except for Gethsamene, and he is really too old for this part now. He's milking his one hit wonder far past his prime.

I liked Glover (he grew on me), but missed the high notes. I enjoyed Herod too, but I like 'em really over the top, as he was.

Apr. 7-8: DeVos Performance Hall, Grand Rapids, MI

YES!!!!!

I'm going to see it, since DeVos isn't to far away, maybe 45 minutes...

Yay!

*Does happy dance*

I'm only a little excited! *insert sarcasm* Smile
TLKbroadway

I really thought the show wasn't that great when I saw it in San Fran, but I went to Cerritos and Glover was actually good and sang not yelled. I was so impressed with the overall improvement of the show. I would tell people to see it, it's an interesting show and something different to see.

JCS - Salt Lake City 2/7/07

I was thrilled to hear that JCS was coming to Salt Lake City and expecially that Ted was going to be Jesus.

How said I was and almost walked out when I found out that he was not performing that night. It was the 2nd night of the stay.

I found out later when the review was finally in the paper that he was sick for the first 2 shows.

I was a good theatre person Wink and stayed for the show even if it was an understudy (Chris Gleim).

I was happy with the show. I loved Corey Glover. I thought he did a great job. Sadly, you could tell that Chris was an understudy. He was good tho. I enjoyed all the leads.

I just wish that they would change Mary's outfit. it was strange.

All in all for my first time seeing the show (other than the movie) I was glad that I went.
Brother Marvin Hinten, S.

Those of you on musicals.net who are also on jcs.net might like to chime in with which ones of you will be at the Springfield Symphony Hall performances.
Brother Marvin Hinten, S.

Anyone?
Brother Marvin Hinten, S.

C'mon, surely there's someone.
Salome

I'd rather not see Neeley at 63 years old play the part. i saw him 11 years ago when he was still looking great. its sad when such a talent is stuck doing one role their whole life. the Monte Cristo effect they call it.
superdave

Touche, Salome...
But I bet Neeley doesnt care.

Unless you really like the show/Ted Neeley, I wouldn't recommend it. The staging is a bit lame, and Neeley sounds a bit croaky. I, personally, love his Jesus, but others might not.

I'd rather not see Neeley at 63 years old play the part. i saw him 11 years ago when he was still looking great. its sad when such a talent is stuck doing one role their whole life. the Monte Cristo effect they call it.

It's not about how he looked 11 years ago. Let's face facts here, people: When the original JCS, both live and on film, featuring Ted, were released, his performance was okay, but very non remarkable, just another rock pretty boy, no texture, no depth. He sang okay, and he sold tickets well. That's pretty much all I thought he had going for him. For that, I was once glad that I didn't see the tour 11 years ago. A lot of friends of mine told me that his performance was nasty (in what way, I didn't ask), and that he did not make for a very believable 33-year-old Jesus Christ. His performance was indeed better on all counts than Glenn Carter's, that I didn't (and don't) deny, but anyone could do better than Glenn with one hand tied behind their back. (That's just my opinion.)

Seeing the YouTube uploads and anticipating my attending his performance in the next few days forced me to evaluate his current portrayal. It's a complete 180 from where he was as a young man and in the 90's. There is a whole depth and texture he never had as a young man. The high notes are definitely better now, because they have grit and texture. I think his current performance is arresting, and it surprised m
