If it's any help...
Josh Strickland (Tarzan) is supposedly from American Idol, but I don't remember him at all. Jenn Gambatese (Jane) was in Hairspray and more recently All Shook Up. Merle Dandridge (Kala) is my brother's favorite Joanne from Rent, so I can definitely vouch that she'll be fantab. Shuler Hensley (Kerchak) was Judd in Oklahoma's last revival on Bway and in London (and Frankenstein in the film Van Helsing with Hugh Jackman). Chester Gregory II (Terk) was Seaweed in Hairspray, I think in the OBC, but I'm not sure at the moment. Tim Jerome (Porter) was last in Phantom, and Alex Rutherford (Young Tarzan) is a B&B Chip alumni (very good one if I do say so myself) |

Thanks for the reply. Wow! I didn't know a lot of those actors... now I do! As for Orlando Bloom being in a version of Tarzan... that'd be way weird! Did you mean on Broadway or in a movie? Also... I'm doing Beauty and the Beast for our school play and in my opinion our Chip is soooooo much better than the Broadway one.

Also... does anyone know if what new songs this musical will have in it? New or old? I can't wait to see how they do this musical!

I'm a big Tim Jerome fan, so I'll be interested in this show. For all of you lazy people, here's the link. http://disney.go.com/disneytheatrical/tarzan/index2.html

I think Josh Strickland will work out fine in the title role...his voice is pretty powerful.

Re: Josh Strickland. I keep reading American Idol over and over. What season was he from? My family didn't get really into it until Season 3, and we don't remember him at all, so was he from the first two? My brother and I have been scanning the "Best/Worst Of..." DVDs, and can't find him. Dying to know how he is going to be in Tarzan, especially considering Disney picked him to play the lead.

The man in Tarzan...I just saw this on Friday, and I'm not sure why Josh didn't go further on American Idol because he was awesome in this show. I mentioned in another post that he was on the whole night and it seemed as if Phil Collins wrote the songs for Josh's voice! When the CD comes out, BUY IT, you will fall in love with the songs and Josh's voice... |

Are there more songs than just the movie songs? How are they sung?
| B3TA07 |
Yes
How all songs are sung. |
||||
| Nicely-Nicely |
No. No. No. Are they sung by the actors or by a man off stage like the movie, nobody sang in the movie besides a couple of characters.

josh stricklandJosh Strickland got cut in the first round of Hollywood in the second season in the top 150. He was also on an episode of Star Search, but he lost to Nadia Turner. Ironically, he sang a Phil Collins song. |

Most are sung onstage, but a lot of the time there is some random voice singing ( like for the song "Two Worlds" ) and some stupid backup choir in almost everything. |

Shuler also played Javert in Les Miserables on B'way for awhile. I had the opportunity to see him in the role once, and he was very good IMO. |

I could be wrong but I think most of the off stage singing was done by Josh Strickland or Chester Gregory II (Tarzan and Terk). I know it was definately done by at least Josh. There were only like two times that that happened I think. It's been a while so I don't really remember.

Josh Strickland was absolutely amazing in this - if you get the chance to see it, GO, if only for his voice. The show itself wasn't nessasarily jaw-dropping or breath-taking as a whole, but the opening sequence is a must see - it's the coolest thing I've seen done with technical theatre before. Kaya, also, is really really good. She's wonderful.
Ohh, and if you get a chance to go to the side-stage door, then do it, because the actors are SO friendly. And gorgeous! Josh....wow. Yeah, he's got it going on, just to let you know...haha. |

haha I agree with you there. The stage door was quite fun. Everyone was willing to take a picture with you and didn't forget about you like a few other people do. And it is a good looking cast |
