talk about your king and i experiences

lookin at this forum reminded me of my experiences in the king and i last spring. so, i thought i might try to start a thread of personal experiences from the show. I played Lady Thiang, it was one of the greatest roles i have ever been given the chance to play. There were many screw ups during the show though. I was sick the whole opening weekend, so i downed tea before each show. My favorite scene to watch though was Shall We Dance. Our Anna and King were not top dancers, but they pulled it off. One night though, the Kings microphone started to fall off while they were dancing, so as he was sweeping the stage, he also had to pull the cord of his mic and re-clip it. He finally got it and the whole audience went crazy, but it was really tense in the wings watching them.

so, yeah, thats just one of the things i remember, i would like to here any of your experiences too, its such a fun show, definetly in my top ten. Very Happy

Oh God...

"WHERE'S THE TUPTIM COSTUME?!?!?!?!?!?!"

*Tuptim goes and kills herself and screams as she plunges to her death* AAAAAAAHHHH!
<Audience Member> CALL 911!!!!!!!

Dropping props and being cut and having blood all over the hand and not noticing until halfway through "Hello, Young Lovers"...

And I'm just going to stop there...

Thankfully this was during practice. The King and Anna were doing the polka and the Kings pants were just pinned together. As they were dancing his pants kept falling down. It was so funny.

During the second performance when Lady Thiang gave the letter to Anna and Anna was reading it out loud. While she was doing this another person backstage forgot to turn off their microphone and they were singing "Shall We Dance." The whole audience thought that it was part of the show because Anna paused while reading the letter.

Another time during performances one of the main wives dresses wouldn't zip up so she missed her cue due to a costume malfunction.

For us, during Shall We Dance? on opening noght, Anna's skirt kinda fell off, and The King and our director had to help get it back on, and in the next scene, my friend who played Louis said, "My Mom will be here in a minute." It was soooooooo funny! Smile

why would your king need a mic? its not a rock musical with electric instruments.

When I was in musicals at my high school, ALL the principals had mics.

I think our only big issue was Anna getting laryngitis during hell week (tech week). It was very hard for the orchestra to follow her whispers during "Hello, Young Lovers", I recall...

Our Lady Thiang's singing sends shivers down my back it's so beautiful.

Seeing the children in the performance grow in confidence and as people through six months. Especially our Prince Chulalongkorn who has grown in stature to the point where he is unrecognisable.

The ballet is quite something too. Just really looking forward to doing the show now.
