Sydmonton Festival unveiling of Cats

Do you know anything about the 1980 tryout of Cats at ALW's Sydmonton Festival? I know that the Now & Forever set includes Gemma Craven's version of the original tune for Mungojerrie & Rumpelteazer, with its humorous little quote of Don't Cry for Me Argentina at one point. I've seen images of the programme and I can see that Paul Nicholas and Gary Bond also performed the settings. Do you know how many songs were written for CATS when ALW was planning for it to be a song-cycle? I doube he could have set the wole book to music at the time...

I think that it was at this festival ms elliot show ALW her husbands unpublished poem about Grizabella and that was the startpoint that leaded to the musical we know today.

From the begining Cats was teamed up with Variations but I am not sure if that was the case here as well.

I think other here have more knowledge in thoose matters than I have Wink
