Sweet Charity QuestionI will be audition for "Sweet Charity" next week but had a question...
I read the synopsis from Tams-Whitmark, but was wondering how big of a role is Oscar. I know he sings a song or two and plays Charity's love interest. I was wondering the work load for the character.
Thanks!!!

Here's the skinny...Oscar is basically the male lead, and as you said, he is indeed Charity's love interest. The main thing you need to know in portraying Oscar is that he suffers from claustrophobia, so while singing/speaking, here's my advice: Pretend like your throat is closing up but you still need to perform. So tell yourself while you're singing/speaking, "I need to really force the air out of my throat, but I also need to keep breathing in". If I'm not being clear enough, if you have the soundtrack available, put on "I'm The Bravest Individual" (which is a duet between Charity and Oscar) and really study Oscar's lines to perfect the voice, since the voice clearly makes the character. At any rate, I know that you'll do great in your audition and you better keep us posted . Knock 'em dead!

Oscar is the biggest male role. He sings the title song "Sweet Chairty" and is the nerdy-accountant type. Our Oscar did the elevator scene really well...this is the one where he cas claustrophobia and is incredibly paranoid about being stuck/trapped inside a small space. It's a great character role and you'd be in 4/5 scenes, I think, lots of lines (compared to other roles minus charity) and a solo and a duet. If you're better at being nerdy-ish go for Oscar. There are also a couple other male roles, Vidal, Big Daddy and Herman that are smaller but a totally different type.
