Sweeney ToddGreetings,Just saw the show in NYC last night. Absolutely blown away! One of the most thrilling theatrical experiences of my life. I found myself wishing I could watch more than one thing at time. It was mesmerizing. I didn't want it to end. The entire cast was wonderful. Michael Cerveris was absolutely the star as Sweeney. OOH! He was SO wonderfully creepy, and his voice was marvelous. Patti Lupone was amazing. She really made the roll of Mrs. Lovett work for her. I LOVED the way she played the tuba, it was hilariously sexy. She had so many cool little things she added. Whenever she poured the buckets of blood, she always made it look like she was going to tip them over or spill them, but she never did, delightfully thrilling. If you are thinking about seeing this show GO! Don't miss this one. ravenwork |

Saw it TWICE in the span of three days while I was in New York last April and totally fell in love with it! My buddies loved it too, and posed for the camera before one of our shows on our Music Man run:

I saw it when I went to NYC (I'm a Brit so that in itself was something) - I am totally in love with everyone from it and I am really upset that it's closing in September as I was hoping to see it when I come over next year, but alas They were robbed of their Tonys! |

i would see it since i am a sweeney and sondheim fan. but the idea that they play their own instruments doesnt move me to want to see it. i love angela lansbury as mrs loveitt and i just want to keep in my head how wonderful the original people were back in the day.
doesnt the playing of the instruments take away from the performance?... in my head it seems like it would. and the fact they have no ensemble... how do you do all the back up twisting and turning of lyrics combining and everything like in God, thats good.? i know that sounds confusing but im just a tad scepticle (sp?) about the whole idea. at first i was kinda interested in seeing it but then after the tonys.. i was a tad turned off by the idea. thats just my opinion. i've heard awesome things about it though. |

What workedo nce wont work again. The concept lends itself to Sweeney perfectly..but with Company,Mack And Mabel and Amadeus it sounds a0 dreadful and out of place and b) gimmicky. | ||

No, it doesn't take away from their performances... in many ways it makes it that little bit better. Please go and see it if you can, it's absolutely amazing! |
