SWEENEY TODD Forum Cast RECORDING 2008

Okay. So I decided to make a thread for this.

Post tracks, recordings, demos, whatever.

The reason we are only doing 1 ballad is because it would be very very hard to get everyones tracks for 20 ballads, y'know?

But don't feel left out, because we are doing it to where everyone else only has about 1 song (other than Sweeney and Lovett, or course.) We are just doing a basic Recording, not a full blown OBC, although we will do most of the songs.
So this is how it's gonna have to work:

Monsieur D'Arque will post the list of tracks on here.
You will look on the list and find what songs you need to sing, download the track, and record ONLY YOUR PART. Even if it's just a word here or there, as we all know, that is important in Sondheim's music.
Then you will upload it to sendspace or megaupload and post the link here. Then for all the songs that aren't solos, I will take each persons track and layer them in Cubase. Once everyone is finished with there tracks and I am done finishing them, I will post the final album on here. Mr. Green
This may take a while to do, so be patient. But please try to keep the posts consistent, so as to keep hope alive...

Also, when you record your track, please record it with the music at a low volume and the voice higher, but with clipping please. This is so that there won't be flange when I layer the files, because there will be multiple layers of the same music.

Software- Audacity:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

In audacity:
Open the song in audacity (you might have to open audacity, then go to Project>Import Audio.), then just hit record and it should start a new track and start recording.

And then to export it to MP3, you'll have to download the LAME MP3 Codec:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=install&item=lame-mp3

Follow the directions for installing it.

Sweeney Hyde made a list of all the songs that we will record:

No Place Like London...Danniel, Myself, Heather
The Barber and His Wife...Myself with Danniel speaking
The Worst Pies in London...Amber
Poor Thing...Amber with Myself speaking

Are there any woman solo lines in the ballad? Its just I am a part... she just doesn't sing.

I don't mind if not, but it'd be nice. =]

Yeah there are, but we're going to do the Ballad last, because we have to specify parts for each individual person. That's why the Ballads are hard.
Catherine

Ahhh, alrighty.

Shame Lucy doesn't sing.

Finale Ballad

Tobias

then

Johanna and Anthony

then

the two cops

then all of them

then Beggar Woman

then Judge Turpin

then all of them

then Pirelli and Beadle

then ensemble

then sweeney

then lovett and sweeney

then ensemble

(so no solos. unless you count the cops)

there are points in "sweeney wishes the world away" where the ladies sing only. then parts when the men sing only.
Joshua

Thanks, Jek. Mr. Green
Joshua

Also, save the audacity file too, in it's own folder or something. I want you all to send me the audacity file and all the files with it (they should be in the same folder as the file it self, but in there own folder.).

I suggest making a folder on your desktop called "Sweeney Todd Recording - (Character Name)" and putting all the stuff in there: the karaoke file, the audacity file, the recording information that audacity generates, and the final mp3. Then you can just zip up the folder (right click on the folder>send to>compressed (zipped) folder), upload it, and post it. Now that's if you're on a Windows computer. Not sure about the Macs. If someone on a Mac could post directions, that would be great.

Thank you.

Here's my Final Ballad that I orchestrated last year through my computer.

Oh. Never mind then, I just won't sing!
Joshua

No you can sing with the ladies.
pish123c

I said it on the other thread but I'll say it here as well:

I still have to get a mic (I may go out this weekend to do so), but if I don't get one in time Trevor can sing Toby instead.
mastachen

We're not doing God That's Good?
Catherine

Fair enough. Didn't think of that. At least I have a mic!

Way too complicated. But I do have the track.
Joshua

We can start as soon as Monsieur D'Arque posts le tracks. Wink

hint hint.
Monsieur D'Arque

Does anybody have ridiculous amounts of bandwidth? I'm going to post the whole thing as a .RAR and then whoever has teh bandwidth can put them up separately somewhere for all of us.

Is this the accompaniment cd?
Monsieur D'Arque

Yup. The whole show accompaniment.

This one?

Cause it's missing half the songs we're planning on doing.
Monsieur D'Arque

No, the WHOLE SHOW. Every track.
Joshua

Impressive. Where did you find it?
Monsieur D'Arque

Had to engineer it myself from a .stf file.
Joshua

It sounds like the ones from hamienet.com Confused
Monsieur D'Arque

Except, every single note is absolutely correct. The Hamienet ones are corruptions or transcriptions of the MTI masters, which are very hard to reencode as MP3, since they're not meant to even be MIDI.

you can always try my tracks...them with that karaoke cd before mentioned is the entire show.
mastachen

Hmm, if we use one person's tracks and not the other's would there be hurt feelings?
Monsieur D'Arque

No. Just whichever are better. Check each one adn decide which is the best.

For instance, the official karaoke cd probably has the best for some numbers, unless, as is common in karaoke CDs, it cuts out instrumental parts or abridges numbers, which I hate.
Jekkienumber24601

I checked the running times on the karaoke cd. They should be the entire songs. And you can check out my final ballad of sweeney, that I orchestrated, somewhere earlier in this forum.
Amber

How much dialogue do you want included on these tracks? For instance, I know in "By The Sea" there's that whole interlude that Mrs. Lovett speaks:
I've always had a dream- ever since I was a skinny little slip of a thing and my rich Aunt Nettie used to take me to the seaside August Bank Holiday...the pier...making little castles in the sand. I can still feel me toes wiggling around in the briny.

Like that. Do you want that stuff?

No because I have decided to use tracks from hamienet, fix em up maself, convert them to MP3s, and upload them.
There isn't room enough for dialogue, so we're just gonna do singing, unless it's necessary or we have room. But like in By the Sea, that's not really necessary.
Amber

Oh, good!

Does that go for NWIA as well?

If dcrowley isn't doing Anthony I would be happy to.

I'm almost willing to put money on the fact that this will never get done. lol

I'm just curious, that's all.

The only reason a recording is even being conceived is because Sweeney Hyde suggested it.

I suggested the understudy recording, but I said then, if people are serious in doing it, it'll take a year maybe 2 to complete it. Don't rush it guys.

Just like the Les Miserables and Wicked fan recordings failed to get done.

Although I really want this to happen, because I want to be able to hear the awesome people that were cast. Also, I agree with Jekkie, don't rush it guys. You have A LOT of time to complete this. Take your time.

We have all the time in the world, to be truthful. It's not like we're facing a deadline or anything.

But after seeing what happened to the Les Mis and Wicked recordings, I was merely pointing out that I'm not very optimistic this will get done.
Pannic

Don't forget the Into the Woods one.
ilovebway

Into the Woods? I don't think I remember....
How long ago did that happen?

Redundent!!! There's way too much music to record in Les Mis and Wicked is too new and crappy to get a forum cast recording. Sweeney will happen. Even if a new forum cast happens next year, this cast (of anyone who thinks they're up to singing their parts) will make a recording.
Sweeney Hyde

I've been working, whenever possible, on recording my parts.

As soon as I figure out exactly how to work audacity...I will post something asap.
Amber

^As am I.

I don't quite get Audacity either...The music track opens, and I can't record after pressing Play, but if I just hit "record", the music doesn't come on. It's all sorts of confusing.
mastachen

It was program that is apparently convenient for Joshua and no one else. I have a perfectly good recording program that could turn the files into any type of music file, but nope! I have to use audacity.

That is one of the reasons I haven't tried recording yet. The other reason is that I haven't gotten my tracks.

hit record, then hit play....

and if anyone has a better recording software. use it! and send the file in it's original and wav format
Joshua

Sorry peops. I've been on vacation. I'll finish getting the tracks ASAP.

No, I'm not upset, it's just a bummer that my mic's broken, I would've loved to taken part in this. (Which is one reason why half of me is glad I didn't get casted in a major role. lol)

I was just curious.
