SWEENEY TODD Forum Cast of 2008So. I know you all have been waiting for this, so I cleared it with Aimee and here it is.The auditions will go from January 3, 2008 to January 15, 2008 Then, the voting will be held from January 16, 2008 to January 31, 2008. If you vote before or after the time of voting, then your votes will not be counted. The first day to vote is January 18 and the last is January 31. I will post the results in early February. I'm not quite sure of the date yet, but I will post a date as we get closer to the end. *Disclaimer* This is NOT a real cast. We will not be performing this on any stage or recording or anything like that. So don't get your feelings hurt if you don't get cast for the part that you wanted. The only reward for this is bragging rights. No money is involved. Rules for Participating: AUDITIONING: 1. In order to not have any misunderstandings with the auditioning, you MUST post what you're auditioning a few sentences why you want to get that role. Pictures aren't required, but are encouraged. 2. You can audition for more than one character. 3. No cross-gender auditioning. If you're a guy, don't audition for Lovett. You won't be taken seriously. 4. Also, please if you are auditioning, don't do it sarcastically or jokingly. It might confuse the voters. VOTING: 1. You CANNOT vote for yourself. 2. Please vote for all characters, not just one or two people. 3. All votes MUST be sent in by e-mail to sweeney.todd.forumcastvotes@gmail.com, otherwise they won't be counted. 4. Please vote for only one person per character. CASTING: Obviously, the person with the most votes will win each character. -If multiple people tie for a character, depending on who has votes for other characters, I will draw from a hat for the winner and and then draw again for the Understudy, or if there is only one person, they will get the understudy. -If a person has the most votes for multiple characters, I will draw for the character that they get and then take the runner up for the other characters and give them the character, etc. depending on how many votes people get. People who didn't get a principle will be put in the ensemble. EVERYONE will be cast, unless they just come here to be sarcastic or put down, then you will just be ignored. Understudies will be the runners up for the roles. BANNERS: Please do make them. They are good for bragging. If you need one made, I won't be making them this round, but Rachel (SuperKabob) will probably make one for you if you ask politely. Please try to keep them around the 100px x 400px guideline. Everyone, have fun doing this, don't get serious, don't get mean. Just have fun. That's all this thread is here for. When you audition, please actually put why you want to be cast. Format for auditioning: Screen name: Characters I'm auditioning: Why I deserve these characters: These are the characters that are up for grabs. I will add candidates for the roles as people audition. | Pannic |
Screen name: Pannic
Characters I'm auditioning: Sweeney Todd, Judge Turpin, Beadle Bamford Why I deserve this show: This is one of my favorite shows. I feel I am a very strong bass-baritone (fitting the bill for both Todd and Turpin). I can also falsetto really high, so that may be fitting for the Beadle. Not that this matters, as this is just for giggle, but anyways... I am also very loud. And I never get any attention, and I want attention. And I'd rather get attention this way than by shooting the president (note to the FBI or CIA or whoever screens this: That is a reference to another musical by the same composer. Not a threat against our crappy "commander in chief"). |

| pish123c |
Screen name: pish123c
Characters I'm auditioning: Tobias Ragg Why I deserve this show: I really feel that Tobias is a hidden gem in the show...He has the ability to steal the scenes he is in if played correctly. I've also always found it very interesting that he can be portrayed as being a little mentally challenged, which makes "Not While I'm Around", his relationship with Lovett, and the finale incredibly chilling...The way he can seemingly be pushed over the edge at the drop of a hat (And as we all know, he does. The finale even leaves some members of the audience wondering "Is he the next Sweeney Todd?"). While he is viewed as being slightly insignificant in some peoples' eyes, Toby is truly a fascinating character with many layers; One I'd be thrilled to play one day in real life (Who wouldn't want to play a mentally deficient assistant-turned killer? Thank you. EDIT: Yeah I know I've edited before...Damn typos. I just wanted to add in that I've got a good "look" for Toby...Pale, tall, very skinny, big bulging eyes, etc. Also edited to give you all a picture: http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z25/pish123c/DSC00176.jpg |

| Trevor reincarnate |
Screen name: trevor reincarnate, but my friends call me Trevor.
Characters I'm auditioning for: Tobias Ragg Why I deserve this role: Well... I am the body type, vocal range, and age Toby should be (unless we're doing the movie... I am not a little soprano boy). I love this role more than any role in the show. Not While I'm Around is one of the most beautiful songs ever written for Broadway and I would LOVE to e-sing it for you all. I play semi-autistic very well and can make it real and not over the top and unbelievable. Not to mention... Jesus wants me to be Toby. My audition song will be "Giants in the Sky" from Into the Woods because it is a Sondheim song in the same voice type. Picture:
I hope you will all consider me as a serious auditioner and not overlook me as has happened in the past. Thank you. |

| musical_maven |
Screen Name: Musical_Maven
Character's I'm auditioning for: Mrs. Lovett, Johanna Barker Why I deserve to be in this show: -I can do a rather convincing english cockney accent Mrs. Lovett-I'm auditioning for Mrs. Lovett because I think she is one of the funnest characters to play in a musical, she has a lot of depth to her; I am a soprano but can sing mezzo. Mrs. Lovett loves Sweeney, but feels like she is betraying him because she doesn't tell him about Lucy. She has a good heart, but will do alot of things to get what she wants. I like Mrs. lovett because she is spunky and down-to-earth, she doesn't wait for Sweeney to come sweep her off her feet, she fights for her man! Johanna Barker-I'm auditioning for Johanna because I can relate to her mixed up feelings for her corrupted adopted father and the love of the life, Anthony. Johanna doesn't understand why her father protects her they way he does, but she does want to follow her heart and be with Anthony. Long Live Sweeney!! |

| Borb |
Screen name: Borb
Auditioning for: Pirelli Reasons I deserve: I think that Pirelli can be one of the most memorable performances in the whole show. I am an incredibly high tenor. I also can potray slightly goofy characters very well, while still having a sinister edge. I love to make people laugh and could do so with Pirelli. I would put my heart and sole into this role if I was cast. |

| mastachen |
Screen name: mastachen
Roles: Toby, Anthony, Pirelli. Why I deserve this role: Toby: Toby is a dream role. Aside from the fact that I have the same intellectual capacity as him, I really do see myself very similar to him. I have a bum leg, like him (I probably have it worse because both of my ankles are really bad) and as a servant to Pirelli and Mrs. Lovett... that's probably where I'm going to end up in the future. And I do have a thing for older women. I'm tall and lanky, sorta like Neil Patrick Harris, who I think is awesome. On a more serious note, Toby is within my vocal range (!!) and he presents a serious challenge to play, and I enjoy challenges. Speaking of challenges that leads to.... Anthony: He's more of a vocal challenge, an adventurer, very brave and sure of himself.... like me! Somewhat. Might be a challenge to play too with the whole 'love at first sight thing'. I can attest to the fact that it has never happened to me, so like I said, I enjoy challenges. But I have always wondered what it would be like to be the romantic lead. They always seem to be a fan favorite, and yes, I've always wanted to be a fan favorite. (I'm manlier than that guy in the movie) Pirelli: Salome casted me in this in the Cast the Person Above You Thread. I have very high respect for her opinions. http://s34.photobucket.com/albums/d113/mastachen/?action=view¤t=HELLOMDN_0001.flv It's not a picture, but a short video (slightly over a minute) so you can hear my voice and see my mannerisms. It was originally posted in the Recording Thread. Sweeney is one of my favorite shows. |

| ConverseSneaker |
Screenname: ConverseSneaker
Characters I am auditioning for: Johanna, Lucy Barker, Begger Woman and Mrs. Lovett. Why I Deserve This Role: Mrs. Lovett: She is an absolute dream role of mine. She has a beautiful dream of her and Todd living happily together in love but she is still absolutely evil as she tries to get it. I see her as dreamer and enjoys pretending that she and Todd and even Toby are a happy little family with her pie shop. Lucy Barker/Begger Woman: She is a lovely lady who has a happy little family and was torn apart by Turpin. She is innocent, obviously of any evil of the Judge, yet when he rapes her, she is broken beyond repair and drinks the poison. Despite her innocence though, I think she was rather intelligent and sharp. Note how she always warns them of Mrs. Lovett, not Todd being the evil one and how she recongizes Todd. Plus I think I could pull of insanity very well. Johanna:Being realistic now, Johanna is closer in age to me and I might have enough range to sing her. But she is very much so like a caged bird and I pity her for that. Her only crime was her beauty and so she is locked up with the Judge. But she is no fool either and she probably does know why the Judge wants to marry her and that's what pushes her to desperation and she then decides to leave with Anthony. When pushed to desperation, Johanna is a force to be reckoned with and she will resort to anything, even murder. She is not just a pretty face, she's inherited some of the family insanity Other Notes: I definately have the vocal range for Mrs. Lovett, possibly Lucy/Begger Woman and Johanna. It is dream of mine to be in Sweeney Todd, so to be a forum cast would be awesome. And I would totally be willing to wear a wig, for as you can see, I am not a blonde.
I'm covered in makeup, and my hair is actually wavy, not curly as in the picture. |

| stlgurl702 |
Screen name: stlgurl702
Characters I'm auditioning: Mrs. Lovett, Beggar Woman Why I deserve this show: Mrs. Lovett- I'm loud, over the top and full of energy! I also have great comedic timing. Mrs. Lovett has been a dream role of mine for a LONG time. Beggar Woman- I'm VERY "out there"... and have a reputation for playing crazy characters. My vocal range is also about that of the Beggar Woman. Here's a pic [/b]

| ilovebway |
Screen name: ilovebway
Characters I'm auditioning: Tobias Ragg Why I deserve this show: To me, Tobias is seriously the best role in the show. People tend to love Sweeney and Lovett's characters, but I think that Tobias's character is far more interesting, and intriguing than others, and can be quite a challenge to play for any actor. He's always been very high up there in my list of dream roles and I'd love to have the chance to someday be able to perform it. Not to mention the fact that one of my favorite songs of all times is definitely "Not While I'm Around". Well, since it seems like I won't get the chance to be in a REAL production of Sweeney Todd any time soon, I chose to settle for the second best thing...a forum cast. |

| Catherine |
Screen name - Catherine
Characters I am auditioning for - Mrs Lovett Beggar Woman/Lucy Barker. (Why does that name always remind me of My Parents Are Aliens??) Johanna Why I deserve these roles - Playing Lovett, in real life or even in a Forum Cast is a total dream of mine! I think its a great thing to be proud of. One of my favourites roles... ever in MT. Her twisted nature makes me gasp, and contantly surpises me throughout (well from what I've seen, the Lansbury and Hearn on YouTube), and however the character is portrayed is always really interesting to look at. I'd love to learn more about the character, especially as I'm quite new to MT (and forum casts, as it happens!) and it'd be an absolute joy if I was cast as this. However strange this may seem, I absolutely love broken down characters (not in a sick way though. I don't joy in watching people suffer). I think watching their demise is is so thought provoking and though it is totally heart-breaking, the rape of Lucy Barker and the insanity of the Beggar woman really interests me. I think with research I could definately pull it off (though I might not have the vocal range) and it would be brilliant to be cast as this. I also thrive in dramactic/tragic plays/pieces of drama. I feel for the character of Johanna so much, and although she is not the strongest or interesting, it is very thought-provoking to watch her and her innocence, and the character of Juge Turpin makes this even more so. I love this character and would love to be cast as her (though IRL, I do not have the voice for this role) Notes To be cast in anything in this forum cast would be a joy and I think its great Joshua has organised all this. =] EDIT: Heres a picture of meee

| Joshua |
Screen name: Joshua
Characters I'm Auditioning for: Sweeney Todd, Judge Turpin, Jonas Fogg Why I want one of these characters: Sweeney Todd: Well, I love how Sweeney is kinda Mrs. Lovett's bait in the story and I like how she is always implanting ideas into his head and trying to fool him into loving her. And I can kinda relate to him in the sense that his woman was taken. Also, Sweeney Todd is one of my dream roles that I would love to play IRL one day. Judge Turpin: I am auditioning for Judge Turpin because he thinks that he's handsome and clever when in reality he's not. I can relate. I would like to play the judge because I think that I would make a good person in law. I'm mainly auditioning for Judge because I'm sure SweeneyHyde will be cast as Sweeney Todd. Jonas Fogg Well, I have a lot of brothers and sisters that I have to baby sit frequently and it gets pretty out of control sometimes. So I guess you could say I run an asylum. Anyway. Yeah here's a picture (the only one I have, sorry):
Although I'll probably not be cast, I figured I should audition for the heck of it. |
||||||
| LaurelDP |
Screen Name: LaurelDP
Auditioning for: Mrs. Lovett Why I deserve this: I feel like this is the role I'm destined to play. I'm a character actress with a strong acting foundation. Acting is the most important thing to me. Also, I have a classically trained voice that is also very strong in belting and I've had lots of experience with dialects and character voices (Anita in WSS, Mrs. Meers in TMM, etc). I'm strong and comfortable with comedy, but also with serious and emotional roles (Alonsa in The Tempest, Leonata in Much Ado About Nothing). I feel like I could explore the depth of Lovett and portray a multi-textured and well-rounded character. But mostly, Lovett is a dream role. It is THE role of a lifetime for me. I'd kill to play her. I feel like my look, my voice, my stage presence, they all would be perfect for the role. And I'm very opinionated about this role... I have a very distinct interpretation in my mind. She is evil, y'all. Immoral, selfish, obsessive. In short: I think my attention to detail and my depth of acting and character development would make me a great Lovett, and I think vocally my dark tone and abilities for character voices and dialects would only aide to my characterization. But the most important thing is my passion for this show and this role.
Pictures of me can be found on my myspace, facebook, and my Vlog. |

Auditioning for: Mrs. Lovett, Beggar Woman and Johanna Barker Why I deserve these roles: Mrs. Lovett - Everyone has their own view of Mrs. Lovett. The main thing that goes through the mind of Lovett in my opinion, is the devestating fact that shes full of unrequited love (which i have plenty of experience in) She has many bright ideas and although mine aren't always bright, I'm very creative. She also has a bit of evil in her though she doesn't wear it on her sleeve. I am gifted with accents and I think Lovett should have so much personality. I am unique in the way Lovett is unique. I love her attitude and many atime I may use the same attitude. I also love to do crazy things with my hair. I find that Lovett's hair can define her. Beggar Woman - Who doesn't love to be crazy? Then again, I feel that she is more misunderstood than anything else. I think she has a certain logic to her but everyone judges her as nothing but insane. It would be an honor to play someone so almost fun. Johanna Barker - I am actually thinking of dying my hair blonde. I've always been cast as the soprano. I have a very large range and good control for her songs. This would be the part I would die for. I love Johanna for her sense of reality. She is always looking out of the window of life. She's very different personality wise for me but I think it would be a fun challenge to play her. I also have a great appreciation for great music and would be sure to justice to it. Thank you for your consideration!! Here's my temp headshot

Characters I'm auditioning: Johanna Barker, Lucy Barker/Beggar Woman Why I deserve this show: Johanna-One of my absolute dream roles. I am obsessed with this shows. I practically had an orgasm watching the film version. Johanna is not only the right age and range for me, but I can absolutely rock "Green Finch and Linnet Bird", and I've always wanted the climactic moment of her shooting Fogg. Lucy/The Beggar Woman-This is a role I might not be able to play on the actual stage, because I'm currently too young, and I don't have a belt. However, I love playing gritty, crazy roles. So much potential for drama and mystery, which I want to expermient with. EDIT: Here's my official head shot.

| Sweeney Hyde |
Screen Name: Sweeney Hyde
Characters I'm Auditioning For: Sweeney Todd Why I Deserve This Role: Sweeney Todd changed my life. It was after watching the Lansbury/Hearn DVD that I decided to go for a major in theatre in college. This show...well...I could go on forever about the absolute brilliance of this show. I adore every second of it...a true masterpiece. Sweeney Todd has become my number one dream role. I love everything about the role...the vast range of emotion...the songs... Sweeney is ultimately a victim. He has been greatly wronged by two men of the law, and then later by the woman that would, if she could, marry him. These people cause an insanity and longing for revenge. The character is driven by past love and revenge. I also feel a bit of a connection to him...I've had my family ripped away from me...and it's a terrible feeling...and I know it makes you want to kill people...fortunately I never did... Anyways...love the character...love the show. Here is a pic of my mediocre put together really quickly Sweeney costume from Halloween 2006:
And...here's my rendition of Epiphany from a few months ago...terrible quality and backing...but...yeah... http://media.putfile.com/Epiphany-49 Thank you. |

Screen Name:UniquePerspective
Roles Auditioning for: Sweeney Todd, Beadle Why these roles: For Sweeney, it would be possibly my greatest challenge as an actor yet, and I'd love every second. While I personally hadn't suffered the perceived losses that Sweeney had, I have suffered the loss of a loved one, and even when loved ones of mine were sick for a long period of time and got better, I felt insane even then, and I have also known what it is like to feel as if I'm losing it. While I don't how how that'd translate to this particular character, I feel I woudl be willing to attempt the challenge. And also, seeing as I'm a bass, and this is a low voices show, I'd fit well with that. Beadle: Honestly, because someone cast me in the forum cast as him, so I might as well go along with it. Picture is in my avatar, I'll see about posting another. |

| christinadaae |
Yay!
I'm pretty intensely exited! Screen name: christinadaae, I would love for you to call me Christina though. It feels more personable. Characters I'm auditioning: Johanna Barker. Why I deserve this show: Sweeney Todd pretty much changed everything for me. I did not, until seeing this show on stage, understand the magnitude and great affect that flawlessly written music can have on me. I started looking past superficial musical theater, and started understanding it for what it really is. Johanna was automatically the role I felt myself as. This isn't because I'm a classically trained soprano (with that wierd fluttery vibrato, I might add), or that she's pretty, but because of the gentleness of character you get from Green Finch. She's so... precious. I love this character and this show so much.
C'est Moi! |

| wicked_diva |
Screen name: wicked_diva
Roles I'm auditioning for: Mrs. Lovett, Beggar Woman/Lucy Why I deserve these roles: Mrs Lovett is one of my dream roles. I feel like I could play the role perfectly. I love playing evil characters, but I know that Mrs. Lovett would be much more challenging to play, because to her, she isn't evil. I would love taking on that challenge, and I hope someday to be able to. I can also do a cockeny dialect well, and sing all of her songs extremely well (though I know this isn't actually going to be performed). It's also one of the few leading ladies that I think I could look the part of. I feel like this is one of those roles I just have to play before I die. Beggar Woman/Lucy is a great role vocally and emotionally. I think I could really pull it off in both aspects. Lucy is, IMO, the saddest character in the show, and I think I would really be able to show the depth the character requires.

| Apples2for10 |
Screen name: Apples2for10
Characters I'm auditioning: Anthony Hope Why I deserve this show: Sweeney Todd is my absolute favorite musical and I think I would totally do justice to the part of Anthony. I am a true blue friend to many people I know and would bend over backwards to help someone I care about. Also, like Anthony, I can be a little naive and not fully understand people's true intentions. I am also a hopeless romantic and strive to be the best companion I can, even if the odds are against us. |

| BroadwayBeast |
Screen name: BroadwayBeast
Characters I'm auditioning: Anthony Hope Why I deserve this show: I have played many Character(Comedic Roles) and I would love to play the romantic again, its been a while, and i'd like to get back on that horse. When I play a role i really become that character, and I feel a huge connection with Anthony. He tries absolutely everything to get the girl of his dreams, and he finally one day gets her...Im a fighter as well, when i see something i want, I go after it. Plus, I am a Lyric Tenor, which would make for a lovely Anthony! |

| Vice |
Screen name: Vice
Characters I'm auditioning: Mrs. Lovett, Beggar Woman, or Revival Pirelli Why I deserve this show: This is one of my top three shows. I have a strange love for the darker aspects of life, and I LOVE the victorian era. Mrs. Lovett: First off, I LOVE this character. She's quirky and off-kilter and a bit of a nutter, kinda like me. She's also fairly determined and independant. Beggar Woman: My second favourite female part. She's SO tragic, and seem fairly enigmatic until the finale. She's quite quiet, except for the seemingly random outburst of something or other... She's weary of Mrs. Lovett, and seems to be one of the few characters that can see past the charade, (i.e. Her and Toby) into the darkness of Mrs. Lovett. Pirelli: I. LOVE. PIRELLI. Such a wonderful comedy character, that turns into such a huge plot point. Pirelli seems like such a showman, and then his/her true colours are exposed when he/she tries to blackmail Mr. Todd. So surprisingly multi-demensional. (Also, "The Contest" is one of my favourite songs.) Other Notes: I, personally, am very quiet and subdued. (Unless you're a good friend. Then I'm absolutely nutty.)I'm very determined, and I fight for people to respect me. My tastes are off-kilter (My favourite musicals involve either murderous barbers, anthropomorphic beings, or man-eating plants. Or they're Icelandic. Or Japanese. [That involves Tarakazuka.]) Pic: Oh god... This is a horrible picture. My hair's not green anymore either. It's a blondeish brown. It'll be black soon.

I'm auditioning for: Johanna Barker, Mrs. Nellie Lovett Why I deserve this role: Johanna is one of my dream roles. I fit the character very well: I have pale skin and yellow hair (and I'm beautiful, lol kidding), I'm the right age and I have a sweet soprano voice (rather than intensely operatic); I think a sweet voice is best for the character as it highlights her innocence and sweetness of disposition, which I also have. I'm a dreamer and hopeless romantic (goodness, this is starting to sound like a personal ad, lol) so I'm probably the kind of person that would fall in love with someone I barely knew quickly and completely and believe his word. But I also think I can handle Johanna's deeper layers as well. She’s partly mad even before she spends time in Fogg’s asylum; she’s cooped up in her room all the time, she’s never had a mother (which is mentally/emotionally detrimental to a young girl becoming a woman) and the only man she’s known and loved as a father has started to treat her in a much different, very creepy way. When we see her first in the midst of this, her world is falling apart and she’s searching for a way to cope and live (to sing, even in her cage). All this drives her to the point where she’s desperate to fly from the only home she knows, even into the arms of a stranger. (I can relate to her insanity well, lol, just ask Unique Perspective Her mental and emotional health only deteriorate further when she spends weeks, maybe months locked in another cage, all the time clutching to the slim hope of Anthony coming for her on Sunday. This culminates in her murder of Fogg, which shows Johanna to be her father’s daughter and perhaps not as innocent as she seems. Mrs. Lovett is more of a stretch for me, honestly. All the characters in this show are so wonderfully complex, but Lovett is my favorite. I liked how HBC portrayed her as wanting a family, attached to Toby and tormented when she realized he needed to die, really being in love with Todd, and thus felt she was justified in what she did. But there is also that she is clever, cunning, and manipulative: she’s the true villain in a story so full of corrupt people. She puts on a façade of being silly and crazy and fools everyone to get her way. She’s very charismatic and hilarious. She has some of the best lines and wonderful songs. I think it’s so amazing that a character so morally decrepit can still be so very likable (I always cry when she dies) That’s a well crafted character! I would love to be able to play her—I think I would be able to do it well because I love the character so much and understand her. I'm also very determined like her and sometimes crazy (a la Lansbury's A Little Priest dance, rather than Todd murderous-crazy) Chorus--can we audition for chorus? I really love this show, it's technically my favorite (PotO is more dear to my heart for illogical reasons) and Sondheim is amazing. Sweeney Todd is such a wonderful story. It has so much in it--its characters are so complex and enjoyable and the storyline is so interesting; it's not a clear cut good v. evil, which is more real to life. It's so deliciously dark, which makes it funny. And the music is perfect. I would just love to be part of it--anyway the Chorus parts are great too. |

Characters I'm auditioning: Sweeney Todd, Judge Turpin, Pirelli, Jonas Fogg Why I deserve this show: This is the show that really showed me the power of musical theatre. Before this show, I thought that musicals were only good for me to laugh at the parade of cliches. I love every single character in this show and would love in any way to be involved. I am a baritone but could do an opera parody for Pirelli. I would love any part in this! Sweeney-This is my dream role of roles! I have read and reread the script watched many performances and have and extremely clear vision of the character as I think he should be in my head. I picture him as lying somewhere in between the portrayals of Cariou and Hearn. That most of the time he will remain quiet and withdrawn, but that when it comes out it should really explode forth. Judge Turpin- Another role that I absolutely love to death! His version of "Johanna" is a song that I would love to really peform someday! I think that he is believes that he has been completely reformed from his earlier days. He now sees himself as the golden standard of morality (he decided to marry Johanna rather than give in to his lust as he did with her mother after all Pirelli- This is the kind of character that I normally gravitate to in any show and would have a ball with it. Although his part is fairly small I know that he can be one of the most memorable parts in the show if done correctly. What can I say about how I see this character? Pompous, silly, over the top, but takes himself with deadly seriousness, and thinks himself to be the cleverest man in all of England, what with selling his elixirs and all. Fogg- This is another role of the type I would usually go for. I can do the creepy craziness and would have a great time with it. |

Characters i'm auditioning for: Mrs. Lovett, Johanna, Beggar Woman, revival pirelli Why I deserve these roles: Mrs. Lovett: This very well may be my number one dream role. I find mrs. lovett fascinating in every way. You know all about sweeney's motives for killing people but what about hers? She easily and willingly goes along with the scheme, even comes up with the idea. One may say she has a few loose screws and while that's probably true i think it's a lot more then that. Her husband died and she may be traumatized from that but she develops almost an obsession with Sweeney, she loves him and tries so hard to get him to love her but in the end he throws her in the oven So why would i be a good mrs. lovett. I have the right look for her. I feel i could really analyze the character and put that into my acting. I've seen a lot of mrs. lovett's do poorly because they didn't really understand their character. I have a lot of personality. I sing "worst pies in london" in my shower. I'm truly obsessed with this show, and ms. lovett especially. She has some of the best songs in the show. And they're all in my range. I think i would bring a lot of emotion and humor to the role. AND I was Ms. Lovett for Halloween. C'mon now, that's devotion.
Johanna: Johanna's often played up as a damsel in distress and never really anything more then that. She's your typical rapunzel character waiting for her prince. But I feel if she was acted right she could be a whole lot more then that. Despite all that she's been through she still has a lot of hope. She trusts anthony with her life even though she barely knows him. I think i'd be good at playing her as more then a damsel in distressed. And out of all the characters, Johanna's is most like my voice type. Plus I've always thought it would be really fun to sing kiss me, some of the funniest lines in the show are in that song. Green Finch and Linnet Bird would be fun too, and i think i'd be good it. And not get carried away with the vibrato. Beggar Woman: This would be such a fun role! I'm always typecast as a crazy person so i think i'd be really good at this. I love how the beggar woman pops up randomly, often to warn other characters, but she's usually ignored. She's looked at as crazy but when you really think about it she probably has it more together then anyone else. Pirelli (revival version): I saw the revival of sweeney and the one character i was really dissapointed in was pirelli. I thought the woman playing him lacked the usual sort of flamboyant personality that he has. I think it definitely works to cast a woman as pirelli. If done right it could be really interesting. I think i'd bring a lot of personality and craziness to this role. Plus I can do a pretty good italian accent. I just think it'd be really fun |

Characters I'm Auditioning for: Sweeney Todd, Beadle Bamford, Pirelli Why I'd like to play these roles: In the 12 years I've been in theatre the best roles I've played have been the villians. The 3 best have all matched these three roles. Sweeney Todd: I compare to Nigel Rancour in "Something's Afoot". Both are very devilish and feindish yet the audience likes them. They both act in one way on the outside for secretive dark reasons on the inside. Sweeney is a dream role. I know I can sing the role of Sweeney and bring and lovable evilness and warmth and slighty insanity. Beadle Bamford: I compare Beadle to Lank Hawkins in "Crazy For You" in the sense that they are both just plain nasty to those they feel they are better than. Both fancy themselves a ladies man but are far from in. Both are quick-tempered and prone to great fits of violence. I know I could bring out an side of Beadle that will make him rememberable and stand out among the other leads. Pirelli: I compare Pirelli to Brother Clarence in "Monky Business" in a sense of flamboyancy, fiendness and showmanship. As Brother Clarence I was a complete showman as to not let the others on stage around me figure out I was really a demon in diguise. I'm more than capable of hitting the high notes as I have already in other shows with out breaking a sweat. |

Roles: Sweeney, Pirelli, Beadle, Anthony Reasons: Sweeney: I have an intimidating presence that can work for Beadle, but mainly sweeney. i totally have the George Hearn/Len Cariou hair. And I sometimes sing Epiphany when someone pisses me off. Very fun akward moments there. Pirelli: I'm a tenor, I can do accents. I am known to play bad guys and comedy roles the best. Beadle: It would be a fun part to play. Again I'm a tenor, bad guys are one of my best. Anthony: There's almost no reason to cast me in this part, except I love the song "johanna" and can sing it very well. Other than that, I'm not good for this part at all unless everyone views Victor Garber as the definative, which I even view the guy on the hearn dvd as better than garber. |

| Amber |
Screen name: Amber
Characters I'm auditioning: Mrs. Lovett, Beggar Woman/Lucy Why I deserve this show: I first got into this show about five years ago-ish, and fell in LOVE. Even though most kids my age would've been like, "EWW, cannibalism!" I totally got it- the message, how it wasn't exploiting people pie-making, etc. Any chance to perform in it would be an absolute gift. And I know the score already, so...umm, less to memorize! Why I deserve these characters: Mrs. Lovett: I'd be a perfect Mrs. Lovett. I have the voice, have the look (I think), and understand her character. I think I'd have a different spin on playing her (who can compete with Angela Lansbury? I sure can't.) I don't think she starts off as a completely evil person, I think it's just her obsession with Todd and wanting to keep him around (and her on his good side) that makes her go into popping people into pies. All she wants is a good life with a family, and she tends to attach herself to the people she meets (here, Toby and Todd), often finding herself way in over her head. She can't get out of it, because she's scared of what'll happen. Sweeney will leave. He might kill her for what she knows. Toby will end up leaving, and she'll be revealed as an accomplice or something. I relate to getting over my head, looking for approval. I've often found myself in way too deep for one reason or another, and scared of what will happen if I leave the situation (though, thankfully, nothing QUITE as serious as a murderous barber...) I'd make a really good Mrs. Lovett. P.S., I've been trained in speech, and I can sing Lovett's patter-like phrases really well. Oh, and if the piano is anything like the harmonium, I can play the piano, and therefore maybe the harmonium (for the Parlour Songs) Beggar Woman/Lucy- I don't know what it is about me, but EVERYONE thinks I'd be SUCH a good Beggar Woman. I like the role a lot, and I'm into playing the crazy parts. I've had onstage experience as playing the "voice of reason" (as the BW is, in some instances) who never gets paid any attention, even when she does something desperate. I think the Beggar Woman has to be very vocally versatile, and I can flip from one vocal style to another quickly. I also think my diction training could be put to good use with some of the Beggar Woman's fast lines, such as in City On Fire. Photographs:

Other Considerations: I know how to make pies. I really do, I looked up how to make 'em after I saw Sweeney Todd. Granted, no lawyers or priests were part of the ingredients, but the pies DID turn out really well. |

Characters I'm Auditioning For: Johanna Why I Deserve These Roles: Johanna: Johanna is a diamond in thr rough in Sweeney Todd. I can relate to Johanna so much. I just want to be free and let go of everything and just fly like birds away from all of the crap I have to deal with. I always had been dying to be Johanna. I think she has a lot of depth to her character. My favorite song from Sweeney Todd is Green Finch. That song is the most played song on my Ipod. I connect to her in so many ways and I would be honored if I was chosen to play her. I have recently played this role in a community theatre production and I feel like I did an accurate job portraying her. I am a soprano with a very large range. Characters Auditioning for: Johanna Barker Why I Deserve This Role: Let me first say how much this show deeply moves me, and has broadened my horizons musically. Sondheim has seriously opened doors to me that I never knew existed (2 years ago I thought Beauty and the Beast was the epitome of musical theatre). Johanna is a role that I felt an instant connection to. Her longing for the outside world, and escaping her bonds through song is something I can easily relate to. I also have the talent of practically falling in love with any guy I lay eyes upon (my friends can back me up on this one), so it would not be much of a stretch for me to fall in love with Anthony almost at first sight. If I were to be playing this role in real life I would be more than willing to bleach my hair and dye it blond, because it is unfortunately a deep brown. But I do have pale white skin. I am a soprano and definitely have Johanna's range, and whenever I listen to Sweeney Todd I feel the need to sing Green Finch over and over again until I can convey the right emotions through my voice. Johanna is not just a pretty face, however, and neither am I. I could definitely do justice to her madness at the end, and would like to be able to convince the audience that I am my father’s daughter. I believe the key to playing Johanna is remembering that she lives on hope. As long as you keep a small glimmer of it in your countenance the whole time, she can be felt and expressed effectively. Without that hope that I know I can bring to Johanna she would be nothing, and her soul would have died years ago. Lastly, know that I am the complete opposite of a diva, and am simply happy to be participating. Happy Voting, and good luck to everyone! Picture:

Who I'm Auditioning For: Sweeney Todd Why I Deserve This Role: First off, I have great experience in Sweeney. I performed in it once, understudying this role, and learned most of it quite well. Second, having studied all four major cast recordings (Original, Concert, Revival, Film), I've figured out the nuances of the character, including the all-consuming question of Sweeney's accent, and how to do it without being Depp instead of Todd. Though my voice has a low quality to it, it is still high enough to get Sweeney's top notes. Who I'm Auditioning For: Pirelli Why I Deserve This Role: Well, for starters, this was my part! I played it in a production two summers ago. To this day, no one is sure whether or not I am a baritone or tenor, as I can change my vocal quality so drastically from show to show. I can pull off the comedy, nail the high notes (sometimes I did them in chest voice for dramatic effect, but often, like Sacha Baron Cohen, I went for the laugh and did them in a shrill, piercing falsetto), and, as many people know from the recording board, I'm a wiz with accents. Who I'm Auditioning For: The Beadle Why I Deserve This Role: I love to play a villain, especially a slimy, patronizing one like Beadle Bamford. Plus, again, I have a high tenor range, which would be a must for this character. Other Considerations: I can do recorded auditions, as I have the entire Sweeney Todd rehearscore cued up on my computer. |

| Brock07 |
Well I might as well throw my name in for consideration as well...lol
Screenname: Brock07 Roles: Judge Turpin, Anthony Hope, Tobias Rigg, Pirelli, Beadle Bamford, Jonas Fogg Why I Deserve These Roles: To start with, why I should be cast in ANY of these roles. My entire world (as far as theatre is concerned) changed when I rented the Lansbury/Hearn DVD. Before then, I was only familiar with the happy, feel good musicals that kids love to watch (Wizard of Oz, Music Man, Singin' In The Rain, ect..). Not that there's anything wrong with those, I love them dearly, but can't compare to Sweeney Todd. This show introduced me to serious theatre and showed me for the first time how emotional it could be. These things don't always have the happy endings where the guy gets the girl and they live happily ever after. In this show, there is no happily ever after. It would be an honor to play any one of these legendary roles. That said, lets get to those roles. Judge Turpin: I'll admit it, sometimes when I want something, and I want it bad, I'll do whatever I have to do to get it. Maybe not to the extent that Turpin goes to to get Lucy, but I can definately relate to what he's going through. I've been known to play dirty in the past to really get the girl I want. And even though I look young, I age really well on stage. When I played Otto Frank in The Diary of Anne Frank, I really looked like I was in my 50's. I would play the judge as a very elegant, dignified man when he is seen in public, but would expose him for the creepy villian he really is behind closed doors. And I would blackmail the director to make sure that Turpin's Johanna is not cut from the show. Anthony Hope: I've been known to just fall in love at first sight (I'm sure you are all thinking, "wow, this guy's love life is f*ed up...first he steals girls from guys, but then falls in love at first sight...". It's very random, I know Tobias Rigg: I may not be smart but I ain't dumb. I can do it, put me to it, show me something I can overcome. For me that would be the difficulty of this part. It has such a wide variety of emotional depth that makes it very difficult to play. He has his upbeat salesman side in "Pirelli's Miracle Elixer" and "God! That's Good!" and then has to show bravery, love, and devotion in "Not While I'm Around" be showing rage and insanity when he does what needs to be done (not saying in case some people havn't seen the show, but for those who have, you know what I mean...). The journy that would have to be taken to play this part well would prepare me for so many other parts in theatre because of having to learn to play all of these different emotions. Chances to play a character like Toby are few and far between. Pirelli: This guy is hysterical. He would just be so fun to play. I consider myself to be a character actor and he is without a doubt a crazy character. And it's always bean a dreama a mine to a shava the pope. Beadle Bamford: I love Parlour songs and am sad that it often gets cut or played down from the way it is on the OBC. I love the singing with Mrs. Lovett ("Now how many bells are there?" "12" Ding Dong"). Sometimes I cower behind a figure of greater power to and mooch off of their power to make myself seem more like a threat. Plus, I like the Beadle's coat on the DVD. I think I would look good in it. Jonas Fogg: I kidd you not, I had a dream where I was the keeper of an insane asylum. All the people loved me and I was the best. It's always been an ambition close to my heart to have this job. It ranks in my list of things to do behind teaching, acting, and about 200 other sundry tasks, but it is there, nevertheless. I would love for this dream to become reality (or as close to reality as an internet forum cast can be!). Well there you have it. Any votes for me would be greatly appriciated. I plan on posting a picture, but since I'm not at college at the moment, my dial up restrains me from doing so now. But I will get one posted before voting starts! Characters I'm auditioning: Johanna Barker, Mrs. Lovett Why I deserve these characters: Sweeney Todd is (next to another Sondheim classic Into the Woods) my favourite musical of all time. But aside from that I can break it down a bit more... Johanna: This is honestly one of my dream roles...I have been in love with this character since I first saw the show and have been dying to play her ever since. Her life is so sad and the character is so complex that it would be just amazing to explore. Plus, I think there is so much more to her than meets the eye...I am a soprano, have blonde hair, and a pretty "Johanna" look I like to think. I have had the lyrics to "Kiss Me" memorized for years...I can often be found singing it at the top of my lungs when I am alone...or sometimes when I am not alone...it happens. Plus, I am already half-mad...and have a strange, unexplainable love for Sailors Mrs. Lovett I think this is one of the greatest musical theatre roles a female can be cast as. Mrs. Lovett would be an absolute honour to play (hello, some of the greatest have played this role...Angela Lansbury, what what?!) Also I do thoroughly enjoy the occassional meat-pie...tasty treat! The one I posted is sung in the backround of Fellowship just before the Council of Elrod begins when Aragorn and Arwin are on the bridge. The one that Aragorn sings is: Et Earello Endorenna utulien. Sinome maruvan ar Hildinyar tenn' Ambar-metta! Which translates to: Out of the Great sea to Middle-Earth I am come. In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world! I think this was said by the surviors of Numenor when it sank into the sea...or maybe just before...I don't recall...I don't think it's Elvish but Numenorian... |
