Susan Boyle as Elphaba?

A friend of mine close to writer Winnie Holzman now says that she/they may be rewriting the screenplay so that it can accommodate new Britis singing sensation Susan Boyle as the new screen Elphaba. I think that would be wonderful!!

Is this a joke?

Confused No, he's deadly serious. Winnie is Susan's biggest fan.

Really? Good gracious I hope not. Boyle is a good singer, but...
Okay, this has to be a joke or something,

Shocked

d'oh! Laughing
wicked_boy

I love Miss Boyle and I was completely blown away. I was doing the whole "oh no... this should be a laugh" and felt bad when she blew me away!

But no, no, no, noooooooo!!! That will ruin her.

She's a raw talent that I can see having a nice time in the spotlight over the next couple of years... But please, on screen? No way.
jackissensational

Morrible, if anything.
LedZeppelinBarbieGirl

Susan Boyle is wonderful for what she is but Elphaba is, well, the last role I could imagine her in. I seriously hope that this isn't true, because this would be terrible for her career.

Word...

But what's the point of that? She won't be able to show her "talent" very much, unless they write a new song for Morrible.
LedZeppelinBarbieGirl

I agree, it would be a complete waste of Boyle's talent. Morrible needs to be played by a theatre or film vet like Angela Lansbury or Imelda Staunton.

Boyle is way way way too old to be convincing as Elphaba. And while she certainly has a nice stage presence, I doubt that she has the acting experience and vocal power to make Elphaba come alive. (Not to say she doesn't have a wonderful voice; she does, but it is not an Elphaba voice)
.:!BeYoNcE!:.

The only role she could play is Madame Morrible. She has good voice. But the only reason she's so overrated is because people aren't used to singers who can actually sing live and well, despite the fact thousands are doing it, right now, in theatres.
Luc

Wherever this rumor was started, it has to be incorrect. Elphaba is in college. Boyle is 47, and looks older.

It's obviously a joke?

Is that a question? If so, then probably, yes.

Ain't that the truth!
And Susan Boyle as Elphaba? Kill me now! She doesn't have the right voice for the part. I know this is a joke so I won't say anymore! But this just shows how overrated she is!
fjays

DUH of course its a joke! y'all are silly

GungaDin, come on. Stop posting on all forums that Susan Boyle is to star in new movies. Susan Boyle is NOT going to star in Wicked nor in Les Mis. Stop spreading those lies.
Elphaba22

agreed
MusicalGal1194

Oh, sweet Aunt Jemima. I think this is truly a horrid idea. I will not deny that Susan is clearly very talented, but she does not have the youthful indescretion that Elphaba is supposed to have.

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked
I thought she was amazing but as elphaba.....NO! She might be a little well...old (for that part).
lbibeachman86

And they say Idina Menzel is to old....

Well since this thread won't die I may as well answer, it wasn't really a question, well - I was questioning why anyone would think otherwise. If that makes sense.
Amy_Vocalist

If this was ever true, I would never listen to Wicked again.

She hasn't even got the right voice to sing Les Mis (she should sing G&S) And lets face it, if she wasn't such a munter she wouldn't have even passed the first audition. Fact.

How does one performer playing a role change the way you listen to a cast recording? (Unless you mean watching the show, in which case when that particular cast member leaves again, what difference does it make?)
Amy_Vocalist

Sorry, yes, I suppose I did mean I wouldn't listen to HER in it.

Didn't make myself quite clear did I d'oh!
Elphie With A Ga

i would hate her as elphie!! that would be dreadful...not only is her voice not suitable for the part, but im not too sure if a single fiyero would want to audition with her it (okay, that was mean. but face it, its more than possible)

i think she has a fairly good voice for fantine...but she's not going to be one of the most notable performers!
Mistress

d'oh! Guys, Gungadin wasn't being serious in any way at all (pulled the same schtick on the Les Mis forum too)...and Boyle's pretty much old news now anyway...
STRWBRRY

This is just a ridiculous question. It can't be true that anyone thinks that boyle could be a good elphie.
Mistress

That's the whole damn point of the post...not even Gunadin believes it, he's just trying piss us off.
StarInTraining

she might have the voice for it but she doesnt have the face and is just too old. for elphaba i would like to see either some one that has done the role on stage or a young new comer around 17- 24 that really wants to enter the world and bring Elphaba to life. dont get me wrong i like boyle but she just isnt right for Elphaba. If she was to be in the movie i would say put her as Morrible.

BAHAHAHAHAH d'oh! She wishes! She's bloody awful, couldn't sing Elphaba if her horrible clingy dress depended on it. Rolling Eyes
