Sunset Film...

When guys, when? I love this show and it's absolutely ripe for a film version.
Bex

erm..the musical is bassed on a film...the film itself is not a musical but it's meant to be quite good (i havent seen it yet)
Jordan

Sorry, I meant a film of the musical.
Bex

oh right! fair enough lol!

Eh. They shouldn't try. I think it would be terrible. There is no way it could be close. You don't remake classics.
jcstar

Yet, Hollywood had remade these classic films:

The Pink Panther
The Shaggy Dog
The Producers (stay with me, here...)

... and others...

Romeo and Juliet comes to mind, plus I saw three film versions of Hamlet.

Need I go on?

I'd love to see SUNSET made into a film. I'd shoot it in B&W, though. That's the only way I think it'd work. But I've never seen it onstage.

Andy.

And they are terrible. Sunset is an iconic film. It would be like remaking Casablanca.

It's not a remake of the movie, it's a movie version of the musical stage version which is very good, and very faithful to the film in everything from characters to dialogue!

I love the original movie but, i would love to see the musical on video to. Actually I read in my local paper that they were gonna make a movie and it would be out later this year, but I haven't heard anything on it since.
Amy_Vocalist

I've heard rumors that they will be making a Film Version of the musical too, ALA POTO

Well, about 10 years ago Cameron Mackintosh promised Les Mis... still hasn't happened... POTO was promised almost as soon as it opened...

Appearently Christmas 2006 it will be released. Glenn Close stars as Desmond and Hugh Jackman is reported to be Joe Gillis.

Though, I haven't heard if they've started shooting, yet...

The theatrical and critical failure of PotO2004 probably slowed their steps for a bit.
London01

I like to see Ewan McGregor as Joe.

I've heard rumores that either Ewan McGregor will play Joe or Hugh Jackman.
Salome

Jeremy Irons would be perfect as Max.
London01

Have they started filming??
It was to be released for Christmas 2006 but it has gone very quiet.

It's very "hush-hush." And I think it should be that way.

Andy.
ICEcreamAssassin78

the announcement was made... Its releasing in 2008 starring glenn close and rumoured joe is ewan Mcgregor... all rumour at the moment..

heres the link to the IMDB.com page:
http://imdb.com/title/tt0469609/fullcredits

I can't wait, glenn close, captured everything from the movie that made it special as well as giving some sort of heart to the character of Norma.. just great!!!

Okay, on that siute they have ALW listed under "Non-original music by:"

What on Earth does THAT mean?

Andy.
Jordan

I'd still be inclined to wait until RUG announce it formally.

Non-original music is either a bitchy comment or, most likely, referring to the fact that the music will NOT be unique to the film as it has been in the show previously. They'll no doubt squeeze out a tune somewhere to get an Oscar nod like You Must Love Me for Evita.
