The sky's the limit, my friend. But I'll throw one out there:
Throughly Modern Millie? |

Why do so many Catholic schools do Fiddler on the Roof? My favorite show for high schools has to be Wonderful Town, and I'm pretty sure it's not too racy. |

I have no idea why so many do fiddler. Maybe it because we did godspell, which was christian, and then felt obligated to do Fiddler...
but there are quite a few Jewish drama club people at our school. lol. I've heard of Millie, but never Wonderful Town. What are they about? Thank you all so much! |

Lol. Well, at least you've got a good reason.
Wonderful Town is a Leonard Bernstein [of West Side Story fame] musical set in 1920's New York City. Two sisters from Ohio, Ruth and Eileen, come to New York to fufill their dreams and along the way meet quite a few colorful characters, including Conga-dancing Brazilian sailors, an off-season football player, a smooth-talking con man, and a harsh newspaper editor. It's one of those classic musical comedies, very funny, and with a fun ensemble of Christopher Street citizens. Thoroughly Modern Millie is a more modern Wonderful Town, it was on Broadway recently starring Sutton Foster as Millie, fresh from the Midwest and ready to find a rich man to marry. She too meets some crazy characters, and her best friend is blonde heiress, Miss Dorothy Brown. She ends up falling in love, and becomes involved in a smuggling scheme. While there are a decent amount of roles, the ensemble doesn't do much, and you'll need at least a few tap dancers, for the typists. |

Ooh...i really like the sound of Wonderful Town! Would you happen to know vocal ranges for Ruth and Eileen (or wear I could find that info?)? |
||
| LittleGavroche |
I'm not sure of specific ranges, but Ruth is an alto and gets the amazing "One Hundred Easy Ways to Lose a Man," which is a bit of speak-singing and could probably be played by a soprano fairly easily if necessary and Eileen is a soprano, and her main solo song would be "A Little Bit In Love."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonderful_Town Is always helpful, if you'd like a descriptive plot synopsis. And there are various videos of productions on Youtube. |

Thank you! You are AMAZING! |

Oh, and I'd like to add. It is never expressly said that Violet is prostitute, if you read that in the synopsis. It's implied. By a funny line about rhumba dancing, but never actually said. If things like that are a problem in your school. They are in mine. |
||
| ALittleFallofRain |
Haha yes, generally they are.
In Godspell there is a line that says, "Let's all have some wine!" (said by Judas) We had to cut the line b/c administration threw a fit |

Oh, you should have seen the outrage about the Poppy scene in the Wiz Not a problem. I love to see high schools that do shows off the beaten track. Enough with the schools that do Grease and The Wizard of Oz... |

Lol yes, we are trying to find something different...but at the same time somewhat recognizable. Difficult task! I hate the Wizard of Oz after Wicked. |

Into The Woods has plenty of female roles.
I assume the Catholic school bit rules out things like Chicago and Rent. |
||
| ALittleFallofRain |
Haha yes...we wouldn't want to send the administration into fits of seizures. I definitely think Rent and Chicago would successfully manage that... |

I don't know. Giving the Admin seizures could be fun, |

I'm sure Catholics drink wine...and don't worry about the odd prostitute, there are a few in the Bible |
