Will someone explain to me what happend with India Menzel levaing Wicked on Broadway!? I mean Miss Bean played her on what should have been her last performance. Was it something to do with a fall!? I'm confused!!> Confused

Idina hurt herself during the melting, if you want more info go to idinamenzel.com then click on "melting" in the box that is labled letters, she explains more there!
Hope this help!!

Basically, Idina was going down a trapdoor on the night before her last performance and she tripped or something and (if I remember right) broke a rib.

You're close. She was supposed to go down the trap door and it fell out from under her. Another one of Wicked's many technical problems, I guess. She couldn't go on the next night due to her injuries (could you imagine attempting to belt out those notes with bruised and broken ribs? Gah...)

She did manage to sing part of For Good though, which I thought was very brave. Not to mention sweet. Very Happy

No, she didn't. After Shoshana went down the trapdoor at the end, Idina came out on the side in a red jumpsuit and did the Finale... Sho did For Good, not Idina.
Luc

Oh, I thought she did FOR GOOD too, for some reason.

Semi. They are the words from For Good. Just in Finale context.

Awww, that got me a bit teary. And I haven't even been to see the show!

- I only wish Glinda could know we're alive.
- I think she knows!

Hehe, that was funny. Although it was hard to hear most of it over all the cheering. All of the "I love you Idina"s were kind of annoying me.
qpidsangel

haha yea that was really cute.

Anyone know if there's a video of her actually falling??? I'm such a sadist.

It's done behind a curtain, so no there wouldn't be a video of it.
Luc

That was an AWESOME vid, thanks!!! I just think that they should have gone on with the show more maturely, ya know without the "I LOVE IDINA MENZEL!!!!" from Glinda. It was kind of funny, but they did have a show to do. And after she said that, it would have sounded stupid if Fiyero hadn't said "I think she knows". I don't know, that's just my opinion. It might have been the right thing to do at the time, but from a performer's perspective, it doesn't seem very mature to me. Smile

Eee, I'm so demonic!

From a performer's point of view, I agree with you. But I think it was the right thing to do at the time.

It's all in good fun! Very Happy

But there were people in the audience who weren't Wicked fans and such, and were very confused when Idina came out at the end, degreenified and in the red jumpsuit...
Luc

Yeah, that would be weird if you didn't know who she was....that would be SSOO confusing!
BroadwayBud

I'd probably be upset if that was my first time seeing Wicked and the end of the show was handled like that, but, what are you gonna do?
DramaRobin2002

I'm pretty sure at least 98% of that audience were Wicked and/or Idina fans. I do feel bad for that 2% that had no idea what was going on.
happyguava

They could have worked it out though. If I was there and had no idea what was going on I would just join in the fun. Well, not the teenybopper yelling, but I wouldn't mind.
TR_Wolf

On the night she fell, did she continue the final scene etc?

Also I completely agree, there would be people there who didnt know about specific actors, and it was quite unproffessional to compromise the script and break out of character, make character replacements with non-costumed cast etc just because it was meant to be someone's final production. If you hadnt seen it before and Elphaba DIDNT come out of the trap door to explain what was going on, instead someone in a tracksuit came on stage, it'd be confusing.

I also feel sorry for Sho, her first show and she doesnt get to do the finale and seems to go uncared for because of Idina coming on and stealing the show.

Shoshana went on for the last five minutes of the show after Idina fell. Idina was rushed straight to the hospital. Anyway, like I said before, at least 98% of that audience was there to see Idina. And after all that time as Elphaba, I think she deserved to be able to go on her finale night even if it meant breaking character and walking on in a red track suit.
Luc

I remember someone said that the night she fell somebody asked if there was a doctor in the house.

Man, I wish I was a doctor. Wink

Except that they screamed really loudly when Sho came out, even though they all knew it was supposed to be Idina. They showed their support for Sho. And she did get to do curtain call.

Besides, she'd done the show before as a standby. It wasn't her first performance ever.

The way it was done was that Idina came on that performance right where she had left off the day before. So technically Sho didn't even lose any stage time since she had done the finale the day before.

Ohhh, good point. And wouldn't it be more awkward to bow after performing for 5 minutes rather than bowing after you did the whole show except for 5 minutes?
Musical Fanatic!!

Did idina come back on stage to finish the scene off????? SPOILER!!!!!! When fiyero opens the trap door to let her out and when she sings in the finale??????
