Stepsister's Lament Duo

me and my sister are doing The stepsister's lament for a talent show
we found the lyrics online but we don't lnow which part is which
is Esmerelda the fat one or the thin one?
would this be a good song for a 6th grader and a 8th grader to do together?
My sister's really tall and thin and i'm short but i'm not really fat.. does that matter? Cause i don't really want to look fat if i can avoid it.
waht should we wear for costumes?
We saw this show at Linclon Center once but we forget how they dressed up
we couldn't find any pictures
thanks for helping!!!

if you can watch the Brandy version of Cinderella. it's R&H. i think the step sisters do a really good job with that song and in that movie.

Your sister can sing Grace's part and you can sing Joy's part. From what I've seen, Joy is supposed to be younger, so she's shorter. Just have fun with it. Smile

I would say to watch the original version with Julie Andrews, as the song is MUCH better in that version. Kaye Ballard was a comic genius! (She played one of the stepsisters in that version.) And it would be good for people to see something from its original source, instead of the Brandy version- which is okay, but not as good.

Isn't the other one named Portia? That's how it was for our show.

Yeah, our stepsisters were called Joy and Portia, too ...

There was no one suitably "ugly" that auditioned so we made them look out of place by having a very tall Joy (me, 5'10") and a short, dumpy Portia. Ah well ...

Joy and Portia are the original names... and I would say that the best ones were the original.
Our stepsisters are both lovely young women.... no one says they are "Ugly" on the outside. Their ugliness is internal too. We are playing them (as it suggests in the script) that they are in character, the complete opposite of their names. Joy always looks dour, "as if she has smelled something bad" I've told our Joy, and Portia is stupid...
Our Joy is very tall, Portia is short... it doesn't specify which is older or younger.
