Starting a non-for-profit theatre company?

My community is a complete theatrical wasteland, so my friends and I have decided to rectify this situation. We're in the process of putting together a musical revue in order to raise money to put on some small-scale shows. This will just be a fun little community theatre type group, but I'm curious is to whether there are any government hoops I need to jump through since money is going to be involved. I'd appreciate some advice on this. Thanks so much!

Yes, there are some "government hoops" as you call them. Check out: http://www.aact.org/start/index.html for help.

AH! Thanks so much for that link. That's exactly the type of info I was looking for.

I actually majored in this in college... (non-profit mgmt) it included all steps of making a nonprofit, how to run it after you've got it all set paperwork wise, how to get grants etc. of course i focused my studies to opening a theatre. If you have any specific questions please let me know, I'll be happy to answer them for you Smile
