Star To BeHow old should Star To Be be? I have heard rumors that my theater is going to do Annie. Just rumors, but that's something, right? There will be adults for the part. I am 13 years old, a mezzo, 5' 3", and 100 lbs. I am getting too old for Annie but I do have an okay chance for her as I am the best actress and singer. Many people have told me that. Recently, I played Dainty June in Gypsy. Anyway, how old should Star To Be be? The only other singer I have to worry about is 15 years old and is a very breathy soprano. She was cast as the Spirit of Christmas Past in an adaption of A Christmas Carol and a Toreadorable in Gypsy. Not the best actress. Can't dance at all. I can dance. What do you think?

The Star to Be is usually in her teens or early 20's, so you seem to be the right age. If you've got a good belt, I'd say you'd be a great Star-to-Be candidate. She doesn't necessarily have to dance much (though that's up to the choreographer), but the belt is a must. I've heard the role described as a "young Ethel Merman" type (since you just did Gypsy, you know what I'm talking about )
However, since you're pretty petite, you might also try for one of the older orphans (Duffy or July). That could also be a lot of fun.

I agree late teens for the Star to Be is usually what has been cast in the productions of Annie I have been in. There is little choreography maybe a little tap, but like Lisakitty said the vocal is a must. At your age and height you also may want to consider an older orphan Pepper is fun.

Thanks everyone! I have heard rumors of me being Annie, which would be great. The problem is that they have so many little girls in this theater (my age and less) that they would probably be the orphans. I might get Star To Be though because we only have two teen girls and one doesn't sing and the other is very breathy, no belt. I am excited. I hope the rumors are right!

The star to be should be in her late teen's early 20's, and since you are really petite you would probably have a better shot at Annie or one the older orphans, as July, Duffy, or even Pepper. I played Annie when I was your age and I was a little smaller than you but about the same weight, and I played Pepper the year after that when I was 14, and I played July when I was 12. So there is a good chance that you could end up with one of the older orphans. It depends on how young or old you look. Even though there are a bunch of little kids they always need good dancers as orphans. Again it does depend on the choreographer and what the director wants in the roles. Break a leg at the auditions and keep us posted.

The star-to-be can be anywhere from here early 20's to her mid 40's... that's how old ANdrea McArdle was in the Disney version of Annie. And unless you are very small, 13 seems to be a bit old for Annie. Any of the other orphans would be good for you. A lot of them have many small solos and such spread about. And if your production opts to add "Sandy", there are even more opportunities to shine.

Good luck! If you don't get Annie, and if Star to Be is cast as an older teenager, maybe you could get an orphan. Pepper seems fun to play, uffy is a bit bigger, and July (if I remember) has a few solos in Never Fully Dressed reprise as well as Hard Knock Life (like the other orphans). Star to be is a cameo and the orphans have a larger part in my opinion, but both seem very fun to play. Annie will be a blast for you!

I think it just depends on the company, I've seen star-to-be's from 6 to early forties. I think it all depends on what they are looking for.

No offense, but I disagree with late 40's...late forty year olds aren't really destined to be stars if you know what I mean...I think it's better if they have a youthful air about them...but that's just me =D

Even still...I think it's a bit too old. It's just my opinion, I'm not trying to start any problems! I hate problems! Trust me! ...you should see me with a rubix cube...it's peril!!

It all depends on what the director wants but i have seen productions where the star to be is as young as 13. In our production the star to be was about 23 but who knows.
