Staging question

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned....saw the show in London again last week and loved it. The next day I went to Dress Circle and was perusing through the souvenir brochure from the Broadway production.
In it, there's a pic of a huge witch's hat with the chorus hidden underneath.
I remember seeing a quick clip of this in a documentary with the chorus inside the hat spinning it around...but don't remember seeing this in the show!!
Am I going mad, or was this a cut scene or something used on Broadway but not in London? From the pic and the documentary, it looks like this was used at the start of the show during 'No-one mourns the Wicked'.
music is my life!!!

i'm not sure if it's used in London. yes, it's from the start of no one mourns the wicked.

It is, as I recall.
music is my life!!!

it's in the bit that's all sparkly (the music is twinkling Very Happy ) and then it goes faster suddenly, and the chorus tramples on the hat

It's not used in London. Don't think its used on Broadway anymore either.
Belle

They've never used it in London - instead there's the projection of green sparkly silhouette of Elphaba melting. Less daft, in my opinion, but then I've only seen pictures of the huge hat. The surreality of it kinda clashes with the essential realism of the rest of the show.

They stopped using it on Broadway.

What do they use now on Broadway, or did they complete cut that section of the overture?

I think all of the productions do the same as the London show now. Wicked is constantly changing little details and all of the other productions copy. Like the drum roll during Defying Gravity, the dance in Wonderful etc..

Yes that's the pic I saw, thanks for posting it! I do love the glittering green projections at the start though.

Drum roll during Defying Gravity? What do you mean?
music is my life!!!

i think it's before the last verse, when Elphie's rising... rising...rising...and FLYING!!!

No.

The new drum roll is right after Glinda puts the cape on her. It's supposed to signify her transformation from good student to rebel.

And I hate how they keep tweaking the script. A bad show is a bad show. Rearranging the lines and adding new ones like the one where Elphaba almost gets run over by Fiyero isn't helping the show!

Ignoring the last comment(I love the show, but I'm not about to start a another useless fight) and moving to the first, about the Broadway show adding staging changes from the London show, I've seen it too, on Youtube. I was watching new SJB clips, I believe from her first performance on Broadway in October (someone put the whole show on there). I was on DG, when I noticed that they added the rise and drumroll with the cape from the London show. I didn't really mind because I actually really like that (it's like, for a moment Elphaba actually brings forth that image of Margaret Hamilton that we all have seered into our brains). They also added the hand kissing to As Long As You're Mine, except Elphie kisses Fiyero's hand instead of the other way around...or it could've just been SJB getting a little overzealous about doing a romantic scene with her husband Mr. Green ...BTW does anyone know whether Derrick Williams has improved his Fiyero any since his stint with the tour?

Yes "the drum roll" is during Defying Gravity moment when Glinda puts the cape around Elphaba.

They also changed the moment Glinda puts it on Elphie. Now she puts it around Elphaba when Elphie is on her knees by the Grimmerie. As she rises up on her feet there's the drum roll as she spreads the cape a bit with her hands as she looks at it as if "what's this now?". Earlier it was done when they were standing face to face after 'the duet' verse of DG. It's a bit more effective now.
