I'm not going to make it back in time because I have too much debt that I can't pay off. Another semester off for me....

So here's what it'll consist of:
--Work and paying off debt
--Theater: Mother Courage (if I'm cast)

And if I'm not cast I guess I'll try and find another job and save up to stay in MN and major in theater arts....maybe take dance on the side or learn guitar or piano. I don't think I'm meant to go out of state to study. Sad
idTAPthat89

Holy sh*t! LOL how many credits do y'all take?!
LadyOfTheLake

Bahaha, was that directed to me? If so, we have to have 24 credits by the time we graduate.
SmallTownIngenue

I honestly have no idea. Sad I'm sort of kind of taking a semester off so...yeah. But I'm probably going to take some community college classes when I go back home.

Nah girl in high school it's different..i took a butt load of classes back then Razz But in college anything over 6 classes seems like a lot in my opinion! More power to whoever can do that lol
NoOneMournsTheWicked

I just did mine tonight and am pleasantly surprised by the fact that I don't have to take a frillion classes AND I might graduate on time without a summer semester.

I am taking:
Acting: Scene Study
Physical Theatre Improv
Collegium
Inquiries into Teaching and Learning
Writing NY
Dramatic Activities in the Secondary Classroom

Instead of credit hours, my school just runs on credits themselves. So my English classes are 1 credit, while theory, musicianship, diction, etc. are .5 credits, and ensembles are .25. It's the same amount of time as any other college class, but it's just measured differently. So if you go over 4.75 credits, you have to pay extra for credit overload. I'll be at exactly 4.75 next semester, which means I will never ever sleep. Smile
mezzo_soprano

I am taking. . . (High school senior)

AP Calculus
Spanish IV

Current Problems
Foods 2
Buisness Law

I'm doing 17 ... I have to pay extra, but eh. Life of a music major. Some of my classes are no credits.

....Double voice lessons--that sounds intense... And don't forget to let me know when your recital is!

This semester is nearly over for me! Then summer (yay for southern hemisphere!)

So, next time:
- Set Theory and Mathematical Logic
- Discrete Mathematics
- Linear & Abstract Algebra & Number Theory
- Time Travel (HECK YES!)
- Graph Theory and Geometry (But I think it's only offered in odd years, so poo)

Things like discrete math I'm already doing at the moment, so I'm just doing the next one up. Yupp. Math kinda builds like that.

OMFG TIME TRAVEL!! Very Happy Soooo looking forward to it Smile
Mungojerrie_rt

I feel the odd one out.

I'm just finishing:
Behaviour and Management of Animals in Society
Wildlife Technologies
Animal Health and Epidemiology
Sustainable Wildlife Use and Conservation

Two exams and I'm done for the year.

Whoa, you're studying Wildlife Biology?? I used to want to do that when I was in high school but for some reason right before I left for college my mind changed. Not sure why. But I still have a small passion for wildlife management/conservation. Very cool.

EXPLAIN.

And please let me be the first to know if you figure it out. Wink
Felix Felicis

Mine will be pretty much the same as it is now:

Criminal Law (interesting but hard)
Law of Tort (big fat meh)
Roman Law (snoozefest)
Constitutional Law (surprisingly interesting)
Tenalto

I have no idea -- I don't get to register for classes until November 13. However, I just spent the past hour going through the course catalog to try and decide what to take. My list of potentials (things I NEED to take in bold):

Organic Chemistry Lab
General Physics I
Psychological Statistics
Studies in History: Preparation for Study Abroad in Italy (woot!)
Choir

Cancer and Emerging Infectious Diseases
Anatomy and Physiology II
Medieval Civilization
Tibetan Buddhism and the Dalai Lama
Health Psychology
Organizational Psychology

To be a full time student, one needs at least 12 credits per semester. 18 credits is a full schedule -- anything above that is overload. Depending on how I organize this, my schedule will range anywhere from 16 (at minimum) to 21 credits. The question is: How much do I care about adequate sleep next semester? Also: Do I want to take classes because I think I should, or do I want to take classes because I think I will love what I'll learn?
MunkustrapQC

I'm gonna have 4 classes.
Usually, at Cegep, it's 7 classes per semester (in a pre-university program). I did one year in Social Science and I'm now in Theatre, so I got less classes.

Have you ever heard of Cegep, people? (It only exist in Quebec) I can explain it if you don't know what is it!

I'm gonna have:
-Arts History 1
-Direction for plays
-Actor & Character
-Philosophy 3

That stuff is fun. Discrete Math is especially useful.

Quote:
- Linear & Abstract Algebra & Number Theory

Those three are very different things. Linear Alg is pretty straight forward if you leave out the theorems and proofs. Abstract Alg is pure theory. Number theory....gag! It's awful at its most theoretical level.

Graph theory is different from Geometry. Graph theory is fun and the proofs are not too difficult.

You'll get a facebook invite next semester. And everyone that goes to LDA has to take an extra voice lesson when they get back to make up for the one they miss. We don't mind. Smile

YES! It's been forever (three years? four years?)...and same with the senior showcase. Haha, that is awesome that you get an extra one.

Well, it's all going to be theory.. I could do a course called Linear Algebra II, which is for all the engineers out there who just use the sh!t without knowing what it actually is. I love this stuff, and I love the guy who's doign the Number Theory part of the course - he is a mathematical GOD in my eyes Very Happy

Hmmm.. No.. Geometry is VERY closely related to Graph theory.. This guy - http://melder.us/ - is very into geometric group theory, and I've gone to a lot of his seminars on it this semester.. Omg.. HE is another god in my life Smile Geometric group theory is so freaking interesting!! My favourite of his things he has ever said was, "If you stand back really far and squint at this graph, it kinda looks like this other graph!".. And that was legit Razz

Okay, I admit, it's a philosophy subject.. With zero contact hours Razz Haha. So, it'll be fun to be able to say, "My exam is yesterday!!" Razz.. and then watch people squirm!

Wow. American schools/colleges are really strange.

I'm just doing my 4 subjects, Bio, Chem, Eng Lit and Drama, as well as Girls' Choir, and rehearsels for The Idiot.

Should be a'ight.

????? Have you taken any Graph Theory yet? Graph Theory is about how things relate and connect to each other. Geometry is about space, size, length, angles, etc. Graph Theory has vertices and edges (directed or non-directed) but there are no measured angles or length of edges, unless of course you decide to give an edge a "weight" but nothing is measured. We can draw identical graphs but they won't appear to be the same. I know about Group Theory but I haven't heard of Geometric Group Theory.

My advice....stay away from Metamathematics...it'll drive you insane...literally. Fractals and Chaos Theory though are fun especially since they use computers. Analysis or it's sometimes called Advanced Calculus will help you understand Calculus better. Topology is interesting but I found it tough. Combinatorics is fun. My favorite though is statistics.

Maybe that's why Emma Watson is studying in the US at Brown.

To what level have you actually learnt graph theory?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geometric_group_theory -- wikipedia comes to the rescue, as always.. In case you wanted to read more about GGT, which is a seriously fascinating topic, wiki is always a good place to start.

Plus,
Quote:
Another important idea in group theory is to consider finitely generated groups themselves as geometric objects.

I just bought a calendar with fractal pictures.. So.. Stuff the calendar, I'm pulling it apart and laminating the pictures to use them as posters Razz My life rocks.

I'm not saying bad either...just different. I think Emma said she liked the variety of course offerings she could take there. The American university system is well financed and Brown in particular has $2 billion in its endowment. Schools encourage their alumni to donate throughout their life.

She had an offer for my college at Cambridge, and rumour has it she might come here next year - apparently she's hassled too much in the US. I'm told people are fond of going up to her and saying, "OMG, you're that girl from Lord of the Rings!"

Just undergraduate. At its elemental level you don't use any Geometry. A famous example of Graph Theory is the Königsberg bridge problem which uses no Geometry, just vertices and edges to show connection. Lengths of the edges and the angles between edges are not relevant. My favorite application of Graph Theory is the solution to the Instant Insanity puzzle. Again, no Geometry needed. Geometry may be used in some branch of Graph Theory but there's lots of research just concerned with degrees of nodes in graphs, adjacencies, paths, cycles, trees, forests,...

Possibly because the Brits are less starstruck especially with one of their own. Or is she just upset that they don't get the film right? Razz Anyway, she just started so hopefully the novelty of having her on campus will wear off.
