Spring Awakening to close on Broadway?

I was just wondering, if this seemed likely. If you go to Broadway.com, and go to the Spring Awakening page, their individual AND group ticket sales only allow booking to 8/30/08. Hmmmmmmm. This seems very unusual. Are they doing that bad?
blue wind

no....it just means they're only selling tickets until the end of the summer right now......
What Is This Feeling?

Yes, but it is getting a little close now. Not allowing the public to buy a ticket for a date less than 3 months away is a little risky, don't you think?
blue wind

i suppose....but it's spring awakening. right now it's so popular they can do almost anything they want.

i'm sure they'll open up new ticket slots soon.
What Is This Feeling?

Hopefully. It definately should not close yet. Hopefully videos of the new Melchior and Wendla have leaked on to Youtube already. I really want to see them. Do you honestly think they will keep up with the sales once the cast shifts. Very few of the origina lcast are there now. Besides, Christine, Pheobe, Lilli, Remy, Brian, and Skylar I believe. Spring Awakening definately will holds it's own, I know. I just hope they don't succumb to the celebrity casting. I doubt they will though.

On the contrary, I think it's exactly the kind of show that would succumb to stunt casting.
blue wind

they won't do celebrity casting. with all these open calls and auditions they've been having? i think the casting directors really like taking undiscovered talented kids and making them broadway stars. which is kinda cool.

Matt , why would you say that? Just because it seems as the same genre as Rent? Have you seen the Broadway production? Not to be rude, I'm just curious to why you would say that. I definately think they are going to try and try keep discovering new talent, as Blue Wind mentioned. Who knows? Why do you think that though?

Why in the world did you mention Rent?

Anyway, I wouldn't do a double-take if Spring Awakening did some stunt casting because it's become such a popular show with young people. Just look at shows like Legally Blonde and Grease that have their own television shows dedicated to finding new cast members. History says that once a show gains commercial success, it's only a matter of time before stunt casting takes place. The current actors in the show are already mini-celebrities in certain theatre circles; It wouldn't exactly be surprising if *real* celebrities came to Broadway and took their places. It's happening more and more nowadays with other shows.

I have abootleg of the new Wendla, Alexandra Socha as Wendla and Jesse Swenson as Melchior... if you're interested pm me.

The new Melchior, Kyle Riabko, will be joining the tour, as will Blake Bashoff (Moritz) in August.

Mat, I think if the producers were gonna stunt-cast, it would've already happened. They've had lots of opportunities since the 4 biggest roles have already been replaced.

I'm not saying that they would do it soon. Perhaps in a few years when the show isn't as fresh.

I need that bootleg. PM?

And yes, Riabko and Bashoff will be joing the tour. In fact, I have the semi-confirmed cast list for the tour cast (except for Wendla) and there is definitely no stunt-casting going on in there. I like the idea of fresh new talent.

So if Blake Bashoff is joining the tour...when will he be off Broadway? I would really like to see him this summer before he leaves.

Oh, I really hope they don't give in to celebrity casting! I'm going to see the show in about a week from today and I am soo syched and excited! I'm bummed that the original cast is dying out, cuz I love Jon Groff and all of them! but I figure the show will do fine with a new cast, and I'd like to see what they do to the characters! I figured I'd give the new cast a chance, right? And it doesn't matter because Spring Awakening is one of my favorite musicals! Can't wait!
What Is This Feeling?

Oh yay! They just opened dates to sel tickets throught 12/21/08. Not to worrry. The show won't be closing anytime too soon.
