Spring Awakening audition songs please :OI'm auditioning for Spring Awakening in the UK.
I am a soprano with a range of (I'm guessing the numbers here, I've got just over 3 octaves)
D3 - E6
With a very strong belt, up to an F.
I got an email through from the casting director.. this is part of it..
We'll be asking people to prepare 2 songs (we may only have time to hear 1). They shouldn't be Musical Theatre songs unless of a rock/pop nature. What we really want to hear is something that shows off your range, you feel comfortable with and is of a folk rock sound. Something like Alanis Morrisette/ Jeff Buckley etc.
PLEASE HELP GUYS
I was thinking
Before he cheats - Carrie Underwood
Big Yellow taxi - Joni Mitchell
Ironic - Alanis Morisette
But they dont really show off my range or..suit my voice much. And I dont even know if they fit the criteria
-dies-
Thanks

An Alannis song would be great. If you decide to go with an Alannis Morisette song I would avoid Ironic because that will definitely be the one that everyone does it's one of the most popular Alannis songs. Some better suggestions might be
Head Over Feet
Right Through You
Uninvited
I can also suggest you take a look at some Sarah McLachlan (oh these Canadian artists...)
Building a Mystery
Sweet Surrender
Fumbling Towards Ecstacy
Hope that helped some

I know some people who auditioned for Spring Awakening in the UK before Christmas and the general consensus was - sing definite rock and not something from a musical. Alannis might work but one of her lesser known songs. Since it's in the casting brief, many people will now be singing Alannis. I think Joni Mitchell may be a tad too soft.

That song, perhaps...but I did Joni and it got me 3 call-backs...hah. Some of her lesser known stuff is great. I also looked at Michelle Branch, who admittedly is a little more "poppy", but shows some great vocal range.
However, obviously listen to JIJane. And, I did SA in the USA, so it may be different in the UK.
I do know a girl next to me at call-backs had done an Alanis song, and it was sweet. Good luck!

That's impressive, well done! Must be a big confidence booster. Well, the Americans are coming over for the final casting say, so don't necessarily listen to me haha. Just going by what other auditionees in the UK have been told.

Haha, thank you. It was an experience to say the least. I think though, definitely go with the more "rock" type songs over the pop ones, but there are some good folk and pop songs that fit well, too. The girls in SA don't sing as many "rock"-type songs as the guys do, the girls are more pop/folk, I'd say.

Thanks so much everyone, I really do appriciate it, and congrats on getting 3 call backs
But I researched into all the songs you said and none of them..go anywhere in the melody..Do you know what I mean? They use around one octave and thats it haha!
Sorry, I dont want to sound like I'm complaining about your help. thanks so much

for these auditions, are you supposed to bring sheet music and sing with a piano, or do it acapella? (I may have a suggestion, but I don't think it has sheet music)

I'd be interested to hear the song name, even if we do need sheet music

Do you think it would be a good idea to sing either something by maroon5 or carole king of a video audition? And do you guys think anyone even looks at those?

Who do you want to send a video audition to?

On the website, you can submit video auditions

Is this for the UK or broadway version? If it's the official website and they ask for videos then yes, they do look at them.

It's the Broadway version and I'm just wondering because I'm sure they get a ton of submissions so I don't know if they'd actually call back someone who sent in a video audition
