Spelling Bee Audition

I have an audition in a week for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and am hoping to be considered for Olive (I'm a sop/belter). I've listened to some of the songs she's featured in, but I am having a hard time thinking of a good audition song for this character... something youthful that shows off both a youthful belt and a bit of soprano, without being a terribly overdone song from a "kids" show (like ...Charlie Brown).

Suggestions?

I auditioned for this show last year and got short-listed for Olive singing "My Dogs" from Elegies. Also, I believe Allie actually landed the role (but couldn't accept it) and used "My Party Dress" by Kerrigan & Lowdermilk. Hope that helps Smile

Hmm... Party Dress is really, really long and actually kind of annoying after awhile... and I do not imagine I would be able to get/learn sheet music from something as unknown as Elegies by Monday.

I think I'm going to go with It's A Fine, Fine Line from Avenue Q - it is more alto-ish, but meant to have a youthful, bright sound, and the soprano will show through in my voice no matter what I sing.

You could always cut My Party Dress, you would probably have to for an audition anyway...but if you don't like it, then by all means don't use it. I just don't think A Fine, Fine Line is really suitable for the character of Olive at all.

I will try to think of other options. I'm auditioning for the role in a couple months so I'm trying to find the best audition song as well.

Any recommendations for an alto/mezzo auditioning for Logainne?
