Soundtrack

I went to see Wicked a few weeks ago in London and now im TOTALY in love with it! I bought the soundtrack afterwards, which of course was great, but i must admitt i was a bit dissapointed that it was the american cast and not the London one. Dont get me wrong, the American cast is amazing, but i prefer the London cast, with Kerry Ellis and Helen Dallimore. After all they were the ones i first heard, so they captured my heart. I've heard rumours about a new soundtrack being created, with the London cast, such as Kerry, but i wasn't sure if it was true. If anyone does know can they please tell me? And if they know when, would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Siobhan

d'oh! i'm not even going to say it
Luc

I am.

There has never been a soundtrack for Wicked.

Oh you guys. Wicked_Wonders, you mean cast recording. And I don't know about there being a new cast recording. There have been seperate recordings for shows like Chicago and Les Mis, so maybe. Then again Wicked just came out a few years ago so it might be too soon. Wink

You all get smacks in the face for being snobby jerks.

The reason they are being poopy is that the correct term for a recording of a broadway cast is called a "Cast Recording" not a soundtrack. The only time it will EVER matter if you say this is in a professional theatre setting, and it really shouldn't matter if you say soundtrack rather than cast recording on a casual message board, but people insist on being jerks about it... It makes some people feel superior, you see.

I'm not saying the people who corrected you HERE wanted to sound superior, but I believe this whole snobbery with terminology started because people wanted to sound like they knew a lot more than other people about theatre.

Other faux pax phrases people will ream you for saying:

Saying Practice instread of Rehearsal
Saying Tryouts instread of Audition
Saying off script instead of off book (I got reamed for saying off script.)

Anyways, I don't know if they are planning on recording with the London Cast. I haven't heard anything about it.

Welcome to the boards! I hope you weren't scared off by these people. Everyone here is really quite lovely, although theatre can be a bit of a pretentious subculture.
shakalakababy

Evil or Very Mad there a lot of things I could say right now but as I don't like to start fights and i don't want to get a warning or anything I won't.

anyways, as one who doesn't consider themselves a "snobby jerk" (and doesn't appreciate being called one, at all), i would also like to welcome you to the board. I'm glad you like Wicked, I'm quite fond of it as well. And from what I heard they are making an Original London cast recording, I don't remember where I heard that but I definitely know I heard it somewhere. anyways I know how you feel. I often would prefer getting a recording of the touring cast for productions I see just because I've only been to NYC once and I've never seen an OBC. It is nice to be able to hear the same people you saw performing on the cd you bought.

and if you have an interest in getting into theatre (whether it be acting or just becoming a bigger fan) you should familiarize yourself with the proper terminology (like cast recording instead of soundtrack). people will respect you more if you call things by their correct name. but don't worry about it to much, when I first got into theatre i used to do that a lot too

Perhaps I was a little harsh in my wording of "snobby jerk." For the record, I enjoy you, and your posts.

It's just frustrating when people feel the need to post things that do not contribute to the conversation and aren't nice. You could politely correct the error and than answer the question.
shakalakababy

yeah, I enjoy you and your posts too Smile

and you're probably right. I'm just in an uber b*tchy stressed out mood right now so i'm probably being meaner then I should be. I do agree that it bothers me when people are really mean to new people who honestly just don't know any better. i hope i'm not becoming one of those Sad . err but yeah i'm sorry. And to the original poster: I tried to search about it and I couldn't find anything so the might not be making a recording, at least not yet.

thank you for saving me the embarassment of that. I knew the rehearsal and audition thing but not the script thing. You learn something new everday. d'oh!
PappyCat

Yeah, I didn't know the script thing either...until someone pointed it out to me here! Lol.
Wicked_Wonders

Thanks
And sorry, lol i've never really been into theatre. I went to see some shows with my school but other than that not much. But i got Tickets to see Wicked for my 16th birthday, and i was amazed by it. I've booked up to go and see it again now. And im seing Little Shop of Horrors soon aswell. And thanks for the heads up about the 'correct terminology' =]
Much appreciated =]
I hope they do make the London Casting recording though. Kerry Ellis blew me away in Defying Gravity and No Good Deed.
So finger's crossed!
katethegreat

I'm up for any recording that doesn't have Chenowith on it... Twisted Evil
I don't think they can do an original London cast recording now - Idina has left, Miriam has left, Helen is going soon, as is Adam (thankfully)....ugh, I've lost my tangent d'oh!
Wicked_Wonders

Hmm well the cast they have now are amazing. I wasl ucky, when i went Adam was on holiday, so we got this other guy. Thank god. Adam just irritates me. But hopefully they could do it before Helen leaves. And even though Idina's gone, Kerry's a great replacement. THats one of the main reasons i would love them to make a new recording!

I heard that as well. I don't know whether they'll have Adam Garcia and Helen Dallimore on it or the new people. Either way, I don't mind, I don't like Adam, but like Helen, n the new people haven't done their new roles yet.

P.S. I'm going to see Wicked (1st time!) in the school hols!
musicalmaniac396

I would just like to say that I am new, I LOVE Wicked, and I didnt know about the script thing! I dont know about the people you are talking about besides Idina and I love her! I hope they make a London recording for you! Mr. Green
Baker

Sorry if I came across as a "snobby jerk."

I think it's a little early for them to make another recording. It's not unheard of, though - Into the Woods, for instance, has an OBC recording, a London recording, and a revival recording. I'm not sure how much time there was between each recording though (except I know that the OBC/revival gap was upwards of twenty years.)

I would love a recording with Kerry Ellis on it, she's brilliant. I'm not a fan of Helen Dallimore, though.
wicked_boy

I'm sure I saw on an ensemble's webiste pictures of them in a recording studio recording a London version. Maybe it an 07 LCR.

But I remember rumours that there is going to be one. It looks doubtful of an OCL because half the cast are leaving soon.

Plus no info comes up on a google search.
Wicked_Wonders

Ahh well as long as it has Kerry Ellis as Elphaba im happy =]
If they do make it like, this year, then she will be. Her contract is until late 2008 i think.

Yeah, perhaps.

I *think* Salome said this in the RENT forum (I know someone did), but I'll say it again. Things CAN get confusing, if they don't know the proper terms. Take THE PRODUCERS, for example. If people wanted to discuss the Broadway Ulla's performance, and they asked "What do you think of Ulla on the soundtrack?" then people would give them wrong opinions.
For WICKED, at the time being, there is only one recording of the music. But for future references, it's good to know.

And I can DEFINITELY see why correcting someone would be classified as being a "snobby jerk." Rolling Eyes
